Hi Folks, I'm interested in a Mosin Nagant. I want a good looking & maybe slightly collectable shooter. Wouldn't mind a sniper but don't want to pay that much. Two Wright Arms in Springtown has an assortment at different (kinda high!) prices. I have no idea what to look for. Thank's for any advice-Dave

I shoot a lot so I like the M-39 Finnish Mosins. $230 to $450 generally. Collectable - yes. Shoot great. Better sights - by far.

The Finn's are the best of the Nagants IMO also. While I don't think any Nagant will have great value as a collectible, they're fantastic firearms. I'd look for a 28/30 Finn if you can find one.

The more collectable Mosins are, like the last few said, Finns, like the M39. Also are the pre 91/30s and M38, noncounterbored. M44s are pretty common, but, if you find one with a very good bore and stock looks unissued, don't hesitate to get that one, too.

IMO the Remingtons and Westinghouses are the most hard and costly.

Absolutely I have both the 91/30 Tula round and izshvek hex. Both are great shooters I would not say as accurate as other C&Rs but definitely great shooters Yet the Finnish Mosin is indeed better all the way around

classicarms.us has type 53 chinese mosins (M44). These were made on the same machines that the russians used after they sent them to china (russia didn't trust china enough to let them make their own sks's at that time). They are supposed to be as good as the russian ones.

Finnish ones are more desirable because the stocks tend to be more robust, but the Chinese ones are rarer and as good as the Russian ones, but because of the much more humid temperatures, tend to be more miss then hit as far as finish and rust goes.

For collectors - the French made Châtellerault rifles. 1891 to circa 1893, approx. 300K pieces made before the Czar's armories began producing in quantity.

I have been told my Polish M44 would be valuable if someone hadn't swapped the stock to an 02 stamped Hungarian stock. That's ok it is a great shooter and I like it.

Ah, so that's the make of my M38's stock. Mine also has 02 on it.

gonna shoot it? if so a $119 T-53 carbine would impress anyone at 100 yards and if bad lighting the fireball and sound would frighten those plastic mattel guys.
just checked AIM = sold out of M44 and T53 and MN 91-30 sniper rifles. Last edited by kermit; 08-26-2012 at 10:32 AM.. |

Well, mine is a round receiver 91/30 with a laminate stock, dated 1943. It looks like brand new. It had not been shot when I bought it. Paid $127 for hand picked, delivered to my house.

Since I was born and raised in Arkansas I would like an Arlansas made Westinghouse the most.
