gsir:

Is it a USFA or United States Firearms revolver?

If this is the case all of them I have come across are high quality.

God bless!!

First, Just to confirm, is that the serial number under the left grip??? The serial number and any letters there are what matters. To Pistol Preacher, US Revolvers are old Iver Johnson's

Iver Johnson used the Serial numbers 80001 -90000 in 1919 on the large frame ( and also on the small frame 32, same year ) US revolver. If your firearm is in good condition, it is safe to use modern 38 S&W cartridges (NOTE,not 38 Special ), Iver Johnson went to a stronger smokeless frame in 1909. If there is any doubt in your mind on the condition or safety of your firearm, please have a gun smith check it out for you, Hope that helps Welcome to the forum.

RJay - Your message implies that U.S. Revolver guns were updated at the same time Iver Johnson changed the design of their revolvers. That is not true. Iver Johnson never updated the U.S. Revolver design to accomodate smokeless powder for the simple reason they had a huge stock of IJ black powder components on hand and they assembled guns with those parts and continued to sell U.S. Revolver. When they ran out of surplus IJ black powder components they discontinued the U.S. Revolver brand. ALL U.S. Revolver guns are designed for black powder cartridges and pose a real risk if fired using modern ammo.

Your saying that they used left over parts for 22 years. 1911 until 1933? That is a lot of left over parts isn't it?
