1911's Choice of
Hello to all the 1911 experts out there. Looking around my local shop and he has two 1911's
First is a AMT Hardballer s/n B25xxx used but in excellent condition. Second is a American Tactical M1911 Military. NIB Which one is the better purchase they are priced in the 490.00 +- 10.00 Thanks for the info in advance, Steve |

The prices are high on both pistols. For about another $100 you can buy an STI Spartan from DoubleD.

I just bought the ATI Commander at a local store for $399. So far have been pleased with it. Very nice finish and pretty slick on the inside as well, have not had a single jam yet but will brag after 1,ooo rounds have gone through.

I dont have personal experience with either AMT or ATI. I have a good friend/shooting buddy who is a retired LEO and is currently a Magisterial District Judge, who carried an AMT Hardballer as his duty weapon for many many years. Knowing this man's interest and expertise in firearms, I seriously doubt that he had ANY doubts about the reliability of HIS PERSONAL Hardballer. So far, the track record of the Phillipine 1911's is promising, however they have not been around long enough for any of us to know what their long term "serviceability" will prove to be. Also, the stainless steel of the AMT is a plus. I do agree, however, that $500, at least for the ATI, is more than a little high. I am not completely surprised by the AMT at that price, but I would consider making a lower offer on that one, as well. Of the two in question, my suggestion would be the Hardballer. Good luck!!

if the hardballer and the ATI are the only choices I'd get the hardballer my dad had one it was great, but I have heard horror stories from them too

Thanks for all the info guys, I think I will make an offer for the hardballer. It is a good looking 1911 and I see no galling on it at all. I always try to buy Made in USA when ever I can.

Problem with the hardballers is that they are not to 1911 specs so some parts can't be easily replaced or even found at that.

+1 hogger and HD...
AMTs have had a bad reliability reputation... Ive not seen the ATI 1911, but if its like the several other ATI's that I own, it is made in Germany and a first class piece... Having no experience with the ATI 1911, Id still get that one over the AMT... ATI customer service sucks...and Im not sure on parts interchangeability or availability but hopefully you would not have to change anything..
