Default Stainless Steel....

I got this air purifier (insides) and the collector blades are stainless steel.
I was wondering if the SS could or would be any good to make knife blades?

I know alot of knives are SS but the have another metal in them for strength.
I was wondering how SS by it's self would hold up with an edge? The thickness of these are .060" and if it could be used for blades, could make some smaller blades for fine work, skinning and such.

I have never been a fan of stainless for knifemaking , that being said I have a lot of stainless knives , it may make a good filet knife , some stainless is not knife grade steel, if it isnt already tempered stainless is a pain to heat treat I used a stainless planer blade to make a knife once... it took forever to grind and t was super hard, I broke it in half by dropping it on concrete accidentally

No, that stainless won't make a good knife. It probably has very low carbon content.
Stainless steels that are used for knives are speciallized for the purpose.

Thanks guy's for the input and info, but that's what I was afraid of.
When I fisrt seen these, KNIFE blades popped in my thoughts.
Well, have to find another use for these, maybe some engraved plates or something.

yeah all you need is a small drill to drill out the snap ring holes for the hooks and the tie off eye, a sandbag and a ballpeen hammer and a small dremel with a grinder wheel and you could make some sweet sandbass spoons.

Best spoon I ever fished with was a homemade spoon made fom a piece of copper flashing. Caught more stripers and sandies on that thing than live bait.

You can also use those for a HHO Generator. Look it up, that is the perfect grade and thickness for the application.

stainless for knife blades is a special

at the stainless plant here they make it for a week or 3 here and return to regular stainless

stainless for knives has extra sulfur and other stuff that allow it to be machined and other things and hold a edge

if you want a chunk let me know , but any regular stainless i'd pass on
