So about a month ago I got on the waiting list for a Ruger SR1911. The shop is owned by an aqaintance of mine and has only been open for about 6 months. I checked the place out and prices looked good so I figured I'd give them a try. Got a call today that it had arrived. I asked him the damage and he replied with $999. Are people really paying this? I know they're high demand right now but I think he's gouging the hell out of this one. Thoughts?

That's more than MSRP. My LGS had one for 650 a few months ago.

When a gun shop charges more than MSRP they are gouging the customers. But this is America and free enterprise allow a store to charge whatever the market will bear. If the gun is in demand then you have to pay the price if you just have to have it.
I would not pay $1000 for the Ruger 1911 clone. There are many other 1911 clones out there that are excellent guns for that or less. Ruger entered the market place with a reasonable MSRP price and this dealer is taking advantage of the increased demand that is mostly due to their reasonable MSRP. This dealer spoils the deal! I think I'd find a new friend! For less than the Ruger MSRP you can get a totally acceptable Rock Island 1911. Both me and my son-in-law have them and they are good guns. I also have a 1980's Colt (10mm Delta Elite) and except for the finish the Rock Island is as good as the Colt. A little work and a few after market parts in the Rock Island (the Colt required the same after market parts to shoot accurately) and you can have a superb 1911 if that is your desire. They are good out of the box though. LDBennett |

Needless to say I won't be buying it and most likely not doing business with them at all. My goto place was shut down a while back and was trying out a new shop.

If I could get them I would sell them for 589-599.00 or so. I would not pay anywhere near that price and anyone charging that should be ashamed of themselves.

That was as high as I was willing to go for it. I want one bad, but not for a grand.

After telling me the price he went on to tell me they go for $1500 all day on ------ ---.com. I looked and they have them at $899 buy it now. Just a small difference.

I don't care what anyone says that is shameful. My LGS has quoted $629.00 plus tax if they ever get any. There just is no excuse for greed.
