CCI quiet .22 - The Firearms Forum

Bought a couple boxes yesterday and put a bunch through my Ruger Bearcat. They were louder than CBs but nothing near a regular .22. Seemed to be accurate and had more power than a CB. Went through my burn barrel with ease. Needed some vent holes.

I paid $3.75 a box of 50. I liked them and will buy more. One comment, I don't think a standard back yard fence will stop them. (just saying as they advertise great for back yards. I have a state hunting area for a back yard so I'm good.)

cool ! not here yet , i like the CCI's in both minimag and wmr

and eley are a tad pricey here for a sub option

Sounds like a great round. 730 fps with a 40gr bullet. The CB shorts use a 29gr bullet at 710 fps. To me that's a step up in performance, and energy delivered. Will have to try some.

I also like the fact that he paid only $3.75 for a box of 50. The CB shorts are almost $8 for a box of 50.

Only CB Shorts I can find are CCI, and they are 7.69 at Midway, but that's a hundred-box, not a fifty-box.

i have been using cb caps for years tree rat hunting and they expend all the energy in a head shot and will toss a tree rat six or seven feet out of a tree.they are so quiet a have seen others come out to check out the noise. old semperfi

Not quiet, but I enjoy ventilating my burn barrel with my 45 colt peacemaker. Makes nice big holes. Even more fun when you start with a new barrel full of water with the top off.

CB Shorts use only the primer for propellant, the CB Longs use one grain of powder. The Standard .22 Long ( now almost non Existent ) and the .22 Long rifle use the same case. Just for information the CCI Stinger case is 1/10 of an inch longer than a standard .22 LR case.The advantage of the CB Longs are that they can be hand cycled through most Auto actions, the CB Shorts will hang up in most .22 auto actions. Neither have enough force to work the automatic actions of most auto handguns and rifles, I have only heard of one auto rifle that will function with CB Longs and I can not remember the make. They ( the manufactures ) also recommend that CB's not be used in rifles ( I do anyway ). I have heard of CB shorts hanging up in " tight " .22 rifle barrels. Which means you have to push out ever so many that are hung up in them.

I used CB longs and it was no louder than my 1000 fps Pellet rifle in .177

The Model 552 BDL Speedmaster from Remington is the only American-made 22 autoloader that handles 22 short, 22 long, and 22 long-rifle cartridges interchangeably.

It would be nice with this ammo to not have to scrub the crud out of the chamber after shooting shorts or longs in a lr chamber . Got a 500 round box orderd, just have to wait now. It will be nice to shoot at home and not worry about bothering the nieghbors. Just got to see how well it groups at 25 yards.

I have an old .22 bolt rifle that loves sub sonic ammo. I'll have to try a box.

hardluk, you may have to keep your cleaning kit handy. I bought a box of CCI's new quiet ammo and found the bullets were coated with the same waxy coating that CCI uses for their CB caps. That wax coating is a pain. I quit using CB caps years ago because the wax was jamming up my revolver chambers.

Thanks for the info but I think i'll be ok with that. My regular range ammo is wolf/sk so theres allways that graphite/wax concoction they use to deal with. Might give me a reason if accurate enough to go out and buy another savage gave my old savage fv/sr to one my girls and my old remington 511p to my other girl.
