Visiting the Arizona Memorial is a very sobering event. It is something one never forgets.

If you ever get a chance to go to Oahu go to Pearl Harbor, especially around December 7, it's really an amazing moving experience.

I was there with my father-in-law who was in a lot of hell holes in the Pacific, highly decorated for bravery over and over.

Honolulu in WWII was a relief from all that and he fell in love with Hawai'i. It's my favorite vacation spot without a doubt.

Also checkout Punchbowl and other memorials, I saw Ernie Pyle's grave and a whole lot more. only takes part of a day on a tour, I also rented a jeep, went to Diamondhead and climbed to the top (I think it's still open to do).

Try and go at least once you'll never forget it!

When my ship entered Pearl Harbor enroute to the Persian Gulf in 1989, we rendered honors to the USS Arizona, senior ship in the harbor. Manning the rails in our dress whites, and there weren't many dry eyes, at least where I was standing. Can't vouch for the officers.

Kind of eerie seeing the big gun turret outlines and then the occasional oil drops floating to the surface. Kind of like it's really still alive after all those long years.

What I was told is that she weeps for her dead. The story is that when the last Arizona survivor dies, the oil leak will stop as all of her children will have come home.

Hmm. I did not know that...

Visited this memorial several years ago. Very somber and moving, even under such a beautiful sky.

I had the honor of visiting the Arizona in March 2010. It is something that you will never forget. The group I was with was told about the burial of Arizona veterans, as I am sure each group is.
