Default Today's GOP would reject Ronald Reagan

WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama said Tuesday Republicans want to enforce a "radical vision" on the nation, accusing the opposition party of moving so far to the right that even one of its beloved figures, Ronald Reagan, could not win a Republican presidential primary today.

I have wondered if the current GOP and especially some the tea groups would not consider Regan too moderate.

I disagree, I don't feel the Republican party is far enough Right, but I'm sure Obama and the press would like you all to think they are too far Right.

I would say, if it comes out of the mouth of Obama, it's probably a lie.

All the garbage about grid-lock coming out of his mouth is true. There's absolutely grid-lock among the demmies and Republicans.

The laws / bills he blows off about that he just can't get the " other side " to vote on, are stacked on the top of bill after bill, of socialist garbage that the other-side are saying no to. They're supposed to say no.......

A single bill going before congress is a fantasy. They're stacked like a deck of cards, with lots of socialist Jokers buried deep inside.

Saying all of us have gone to liberal, is tad off the mark. If you just take this one forum, a drop in the bucket of democracy, and do a Poll, we come out pretty strong.

It would be difficult to believe that the only group of constitutionalists in the country, are members of TFF. Like em or not, the tea party demonstrated pretty well to everybody, what a group of folks who feel like they're being pi$$ed on can do when they get mad.

We are not alone.

FT,

You hit the nail on the head ! The former President was foremost a "moderate", albeit with a willingness to examine more conservative viewpoints and act upon them if he saw merit. Reagan was publicly perceived "conservative" only when mirrored in the reflection of "uberliberal" J.E. Carter !

One of my entrenched objections to W.F. Buckley's "the most electable conservative candidate" thesis is it must - inevitably - lead to our "conservative" governing philosophy being dragged further and further, "Left" ! Conservatives must "draw a line in concrete - not sand- and offer the American voting public clear, concise plans to address our "illegal problems", "fraudulent voter" issues, reductions of government invasions into our privacy without notification or court oversight, and curtailment of the unrestrained powers of federal oversight/regulatory agencies massive impacts upon our economy ! >MW

Obama is almost funny, he can't get a single dem vote on either of his last two budgets, and repubs have a "radical vision" in store for the nation?????

Just more attempts at dividing the country...........I think that is the only way he could win re-election.

Well, Ronald Reagan ran up a BIG budget deficit and increased the size of the Federal Govt. to record levels. Ron also signed new taxes into law. The worst offense, at least as far as the Tea Party point of view, is that President Reagon compromised with Democrats to pass legislation.

Exactly my point, thanks. Reagan got things done by working both sides of the aisle and is the most revered of modern politicians by the GOP as a whole. To the extreme right and the TP his behavior would be unacceptable. Better to let the country go to crap than work across the aisle. That is proof to two of my observations regarding the general public (the majority of whom don't vote, BTW) which are that many have very short memories and way too many really don't keep up with what is going on. I guess ignorance is bliss or it is easier to listen to the talk show demagogues that to use the real (liberal and conservative) media. If you are unable to separate the wheat from the chaff you really shouldn't be voting. Also, many of us need to read the Constitution before quoting it. I recommend "The Constitution for Idiots", I keep a copy by my chair. End of rant, the far right may now fire at will.
