I was at the gunshop the other day and hanging on the wall was a do it your self kit containing different colors flouresent paint so you could make your own night sights.There was orange yellow,green about 6 diffirent colors.I was wondering If any of you guys has ever done this?

Those are photoluminescent paints. They have to be charged with a light source to work. Not a very good idea if you plan on depending on it.

Yeah, that stuff is kinda useless.Lasts only a few minutes and nothing like tritium inserts.

60 bucks, thats about 3x what that kit should cost. another 25 bucks and you can get the real thing from meprolite

I did it once and yeah they don't work for crap.
I tried with a free sample of Glow-on. http://glow-on.com/ The guy that was selling this stuff at a different board had all these wild clams about 8 to 12 hours of usable light from these sights. I put my pistol with painted sights on it out in direct sun for 8 to 10 hours. I got maybe 3 hours at most of light from the sights and maybe half of that was usable. |
