Single action revolvers aren't popular with some shooters

Yeah, that's a Ruger 50th anniversary. I bought it in '99, and stuck it in the safe. Gonna be my retirement fund. But when it was ten years old, I checked and saw it had gone up in value about ten bucks, so decided I wasn't gonna get rich off of it. So I gave it to my daughter. Ten years old, new in the box, still in the plastic wrap.

Much better that it gets shot.

The efelent gun is a CZ, in 375 H&H. It works, too. I bought it, in case of rogue efelents roaming the streets of my neighborhood, and in the eleven years I've had it (well, it'll be eleven years come August) the neighborhood has not been threatened by one single rogue efelent.

But do the neighbors thank me? Nope. They don't care.

your taste in the SA's!
I've got a few and love shooting single action. IMO, I'd rather shoot SA over DA anyday
for the fact it seems a lot more accurate way of shooting.
It's always in my mind, the fisrt shot has to "count". (just my way of thinking)
Just like a semi and bolt action rifle...with the bolt, it's in your mind, that the first round
needs to be a hit, as with the semi, it's easy to "let go" after a miss.

Thanks for putting up the photograph, 76Highboy. I have never been to Idaho, and it was interesting to see what your part of it looked like.

I like small caliber rounds myself, and and SAA-size gun is wasted on those. I used to have a Ruger Single Six Bisley in 32 Magnum, but even that seemed too heavy (compared to a J-frame S&W), and the loading/unloading was tedious - with the 32, you had to line up the cylinder with the gate perfectly. Just my $.02.

Old Model and New Model refer to an action style. They quit making Old Models and started making New Models in 1973.

Since 1973, when Ruger started referring to them as the New Model Blackhawk, everyone in the entire shooting world has called the one that works like a Colt - click four times when you cock it and you have to put it on half-cock to load it - as Old Models.

Since Vaqueros did not appear until 1993, ALL Vaqueros are New Model.

So, in case anyone thought I was, maybe, being too subtle:

THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS AN OLD MODEL VAQUERO.

How about calling them the Sucky Model Vaquero?? I had two...BLEAH is the nicest thing I can say about 'em...

Are you referring to the Vaquero, that's been in use since 1993, or the New Vaquero, that's been in use since 2005?

'Cause the only difference between a Vaquero and a New Model Blackhawk is the sights. I have absolutely no experience with "New Vaquero", but am quite familiar with New Model Blackhawks. While I don't like them (and that's strictly a personal opinion) there's nothing wrong with them.

I just bought my first revolver today. Ruger blackhawk in 327 fed. Before anyone asks why I got a odd caliber, and not a 357, my aunt ended her own life with a 357, so I won't touch one to honor her memory. Shot it today and absolutely love it. After owning 10 pistols, I wonder why did I never get a revolver? Hopefully I can get a collection to rival the rest of you

I have to put my two cent's in about single action revolver's, I love them, they are great shooting and lot's of fun. I have the single shot Ruger .30 carbine, that and my M1 carbine go great at the range, same bullet, can't beat that. I also have four .44 cap and ball pistol's and two single shot Pirate pistol's, one is cap, the other is flint, God you should see all that smoke. It's a wonder they could see who they were shooting at in the good old day's. I also have one cap and ball .50 cal rifle. But not to worry, I'll not give up my Titan .25, my little Spitfire.

They say in cowboy shooting if your shooting colt or clones buy 4 of them, if your shooting Ruger you only need a pair.

Been using this pair 7 or 8 years now (not matched). Without trips to the doctor.

I have a 3rd Generation Colt Single Action Army in .357 Magnum. It is the sweetest shooting SA I have ever shot. Nothing feels like a Colt SAA.

The single six I bought new in 1976. Still works as good as new. I bought the 44 mag in case I run into a grizzly bear but they don't seem have to many in the Chicago area.
