Man Leader that sounds fun. You could combine your favorite pastimes and just shoot the fish.
Any chance of you takin your little brother? I bet he could use a diversion. |

shot a few powder types and ranges in charges.
( still shooting 30-06 180gr spsp using winlr primer ) found that imr 4064 loaded to 47g pushing that same 180gr spst bullet i've been using makes my remington 700 shoot bullseys unfailing... other 2 good ones i tracked down but need to develop further are imr 4895... need to load 43gr and a few tenths up and down and see where they go.. got some 1st shot bulls with 43gr.. same with varget at 44gr.. need to run it up and down a hair, see where they land on paper. all in all all but except a couple batches performed as good as a test set of remington corelocked 180gr. grouping was as good or better .. accuracy no worse on any of the loads.. though as mentioned.. i had 3 laods thet were hitting bull, and the one, imr 4064 never failed to make bull on the 47gr load. overall.. imr4895 and imr 4064 produced tightest groupings.. 4064 at 47gr and 4895 at 45gr.. 3/8" grps.. soundguy |

I did not reload today but i did some unloading. found some 45/70 blanks in my grandfathers stuff, so i went over to mom and dad's house and ran them in the 1873 trapdoor and the 1886 trapdoor as well. Just making shure that they both fired as i am buying the 1873. Now i just have to sit down and reload a few full load's to let my mother have some pride in shooting my grandfathers guns. She did have fun shooting the blanks today.

no kiddn. I only shoot crap like that when i have it here to work on. I had a guy send me a mod 70 in .300 Winmag to lap and develop a load for. Fired a total of about 70 rounds over the last week. Thats quite enough of thet beast.
Ill stay to my .308s and .30-06s.

Theres no need for anything bigger than the oughtsix on this continent. Its more than capable of 1000 yds and the Targets wont know the difference and a 150 gr pill will just about pass clean thru most big game. Only place I can think of that would require a bigger gun is the Alsaskan wilderness where there are 2000 pound grizzlies ready to eat you. Then id consider a .458 mag or something brutal.

Just need a good bullet and a steady hand Jim. The hornady Amaxes are good choices.
