I recently started reloading and purched a rcbs universal hand primer while priming the spring keeps comming off is there a easy fix or take it back for replacement

can you post a pic?

my rcbs hand primer has had 0 probs.. yet... probably primed a couple hundred shells by now in the last month and a half..

unless your using a too small primer rod ... i cant figure that ..

take a look at the instructions and such and see you have it all together right as a start and then that your following the instructions ( as they are correct )

Its the new universal hand primer a spring holds the shell holder with tension wraped around it with two small post holding the spring and theyseem to short the spring slides off the top

Call RCBS. They will make it right. I would guess it's an issue with your spring, but I couldn't say for sure without taking a look at it.

I have the universal hand primer as well, and I love the thing. When working correctly, I don't think there is a hand priming tool on the market that even compares.

i tried a lee at a store and the rcbs, and I much prefer the rcbs..

Check to make sure that the four little screws holding the top plate down are tight and the plate is down where it should be. If the plate is at all loose or not completely down in place, the spring will find it's way up and off going between the top of the post and the plate. It doesn't take much of a space here for it to happen.
