I have a taurus pt1911 and I have changed out the extractor to a Wilson. Now the firing pin retainer and spring fell out while shooting. Guy at the range said I don't need it. I am curious if anyone has some insight? Thanks in advance.

Don't know, I have never seen nor heard of a firing pin plate/retainer or firing pin spring falling out of a 1911 or 1911 clone. I'm not sure we are talking about the same thing, because as Mr. Spock would say, " it doesn't compute".

It's shaped like a dumb bell and the firing pin rides in the channel and It sits on the tiny spring. Taurus calls it a firing pin block and a firing pin key block spring.
I since have seen via google that this is common after changing the extractor. Person says it makes it go from a 80 series to a 70 series. Still need some clarification though. |

It can happen. I had it almost happen once but it didn't come all the way out and only did it the one time.

Hell, I turn 65 next month. I'm reminded of this daily and try to learn one new thing every day.

Remove the trigger bars and place the filler in the slot.
Remove the plunger and spring from the slide. Job done. If these instructions aren't clear, look on youtube. Its a simple job. I always have at least one on hand in case I get in a series 80 style 1911 in need of trigger work. The drop safety is useless in a match pistol. jmho |
