I was at Menards yesterday getting garden stuff. while waiting at register I was looking at all the signs on the front doors. I mentioned how I did not see a sign stating firearms were not welcome. the cashier went bonkers and had a very negative opinion stating how she thought if someone brought in a gun they were only looking to start trouble. I asked if a cop came in while carrying would he be looking to start trouble. of course she said no and I then asked why. her reply was "they are police, they are not bad guys". I then politely informed her that not everyone who carries is bad and not all cops are good. it's a very close ratio when comparing the two. I was not armed and told her that. then I told her how I would very much like to have an armed citizen nearby who is ready, willing, and able to stop or diffuse a situation and how the police are many times too far away to do their job and us citizens need to fill in.
after a few minutes she showed signs of understanding and deep down in my heart I hope she went home to do some research. it may have helped when I mentioned how society's impression of guns is heavily clouded by dramatic movies and media.

You may get a liberal lunatic that runs to the head of the store and tells him a different version of the story. She may say how you made her feel afraid or very uncomfortable for mentioning guns out of nowhere and cause them to post up some no firearms signs. I know its a far reach but liberals are sick minded. I would leave well enough alone.

I think he meant the ratio of "bad cops:good cops" is about the same as "bad gun owners:good gun owners". I am not sure if the numbers are correct, but it makes sense and I don't think it was that poor of a choice of words. Given that it was a Menards cashier, though, they may not have understood it correctly. Like Bilbo Baggins giving a speech at his birthday party.
And yes I would say a "bad cop" is considered on the same level with the scum of the earth.

Raven, it would be a mistake to assume that a badge makes someone a good person. I can only speak of my own experiences, and those experiences tell me that cops are as crooked as the criminals they pursue. They will lie, cheat, and steal as quickly as a thug on the street, and then use their badge to deflect suspisiion. I'm sure there are honest ones out there, but I have yet to find one.

I have experience with good and bad cops. I have friends that are cops and they are the best people in the world, I will and do trust them with everything I own and trust them with mine and my family's lives. Conversely I've meet a few that I wouldn't trust with a snickers bar. One I met right after I got out of the Navy. I was driving a truck delivering tables and chairs for a rental company, I went to pick up some things after a party that was thrown by a policeman and on the bar was marijuana and cocaine, as I was looking at it the cop came up behind and said " Oh, yeah haven't you heard, cops have the best dope" if that's not a dirty cop then I don't know what is. I was really happy that I never saw that guy again, I lived in the city where he worked and was worried for years that I would run in to him. I believe 99% of us are good people the other 1% are spread out in our society, doing every job there is to do. Some of the meanest people I've meet have been elementary school teachers at a Christian school my sons went to, they would find kids they had disagreements with and hound them for the school year. Bad people are everywhere, a badge doesn't make you good no more than cool hat makes
you the pope.

I think you guys are being unfair to all the good cops out there.. IMO all of the ones I know personally and have dealt with are as fine a group as any out there. Maybe we should all give them the respect they deserve unless we have reason other wise.

I have nothing but the highest respect for a badge, as long as it is in front of a good heart.

I had a girl at burger king one day blow a gasket when i reached in my pocket for some change and some 38 bullets were mixed in. You would have thought i pulled out plutonium.
She was working the cash registure and called her manager. I thought she was gona have a baby. The manager looked and just went on with his business. The girl was a minority race and probably from a home with no father.
