I worry a whole lot about all this genetically engineered food we eat. Has there been any long term tests done that show ZERO affect on our health?

If there's stuff like Agent Orange on the corn, I am not touching it. My uncle was around Agent Orange in Vietnam and one of his kids has Downs Syndrome because of it.

From some of the reports I read not all Agent Orange was harmful. It was a bad batch that got made but it worked anyways so they used it.

I forget where I seen that.

2,4,D Amine has been a common farm chemical for years. Heck even townfolk use it every time they treat their lawn for dandelions.
It's simple and works...but over the years folks have forgotten about it in favor of the higher dollar and supposedly "more effective" (and NASTIER) concoctions that the chemical companies brew up to keep the farmers pouring more money their direction every year. 2,4,D is an excellent broadleaf control when used properly. Only broadleaf plants though, it won't hurt grasses unless you overdose them. Corn is a grass-type plant but it will get knocked by 2,4,D when it's in the flowering stage where it's developing the ears with it's seeds.
These "super-weeds" are simple broadleaf plants. RoundUp, is one of those general "all-around" chemicals that works on both grass type and broadleaf type plants...but it's a compromise that doesn't really hit either plant as hard as it should even though it's a lot harder on animals (read that as people too) than other simpler chemical brews like 2,4,D.

Yes, 2,4,D is one of the ingredients in Agent Orange. Yes, like any of these chemical brews it can be harmful. No, I don't like to use em any more than I have to but we do still use them.

Our family farm is a small operation, mostly cattle and native or alfalfa hayground but we also plant a few acres of oats and barley cropland used to feed the critters. We don't do the "high dollar" corn and bean crops that many farmers do so we're still stuck in the stone age of farming so we've never made the big step up into these nasty brews that aren't as effective.

Personally I'm not all that big of a fan of genetically engineering crops myself...only because it winds up increasing the cost of already expensive seed supplies.
But in the bio-tech industry they're just doing in the lab in a few years time what would normally take many years of cross-pollinating of different varieties to get the same results. End result is the same, it's just happening in an accelerated timeframe.

Back to the real meat of the matter...
The Agent Orange label has been tacked onto this latest BT (bio-tech) or genetically engineered corn variety because of the 2,4,D resistance. That's just media hype. Some ignorant reporter looking for a fast way to spin interest on his/her story.
Well, the really bad part of the Agent Orange concoction isn't 2,4,D but rather TCDD compounds (2,3,7,8-tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin) compounds. Yep...dioxin being the key part of that chemical. The same bunch of chemical compounds that killed off Time Beach MO in the early 80s. Guess where the source of that dioxin overdose came from. Yep...a chemical outfit that was a contractor to mix up Agent Orange and other deforestation brews for the Vietnam War. Coincidence? Nope! Just dioxin poisining. That's the compound that you've REALLY got to be concerned about.
