Woman punched at bus stop because of crying child

WASHINGTON - A crying child apparently led to a mother being punched Friday at a Takoma Park bus stop.

Takoma Park Police say a mother was with her 3 year old at a bus stop on New Hampshire Avenue at Holton Lane around 11:30 a.m. Friday morning when a male told her to "shut her kid up."

When the 3 year old kept crying, police say the unknown suspect pushed the boy in the head, knocking him to the ground.

The mother stepped in and was punched in the face.

Police are looking for a black male, around 5 feet, five inches, 150 pounds with short twists in his hair, who ran southbound on New Hampshire Avenue after the assault.

Neither the mother nor the son were seriously injured.

POLICE in Maryland were searching overnight for a man who allegedly punched a woman in the face because her young son would not stop crying.
The incident occurred Friday morning local time at a bus stop in Takoma Park, WTOP-FM reported on its website.

Police said a man told the woman to "shut her kid up" because the three-year-old boy was crying.

The suspect allegedly pushed the boy to the ground when he continued to cry. His mother stepped in, and the man allegedly punched her in the face.

Neither suffered serious injuries, according to WTOP.

The suspect ran away from the scene, police said.
