Default Shotgun questions.

So I actually bought 2 shotguns this week. 1 h&r 12 gauge pardner and 1 stevens 12 gauge. Both are single shot break opens and the h&r has way better quality than the stevens from what I see so far.

I used an aluminum cleaning rod to wipe out the protective oils before shooting both with bore mop( i guess thats what you call it). I wonder if aluminum can scratch or wear steel? I should have used a bore snake but I didnt really think it would be an issue since Im not shooting slugs but only lead buckshot and bird shot. I think this is a stupid question but if im not going to shoot slugs can accuracy be an issue with buckshot and birdshot? It spreads so I dont really see how it could. Reason why Im asking is because if the aluminum can wear out the steel or not. I believe the two shotguns are smooth bore but I dont really know for sure even though I doubt they are rifled barrels. It looks like a smooth bore by opening them both up.

They are both smoothbores and the aluminum rod wont hurt them. A boresnake is a better choice for shotgun cleaning.
