My boy and me have killed moose & caribou out to 800 yards with 7 mag & 30-378; just can't seem to do the 1000-1200 yard thing. That last 400 yards, can't seem to get it done. I put turrets on VX-3L and had my load figured in at 3250 on 30-378; just haven't really tested & proved up yet.
Killed a caribou with 6.8 stag at 550 yards 2 years back. We have a shootin contest over the 4th, and outsiders come in with 308s and consistently bang that plate. |

1972, 135 yards, white tail deer, New Mexico with a .357 mag revolver. I was younger then, now they have to be 30 or 40 yards closer....70 yards closer is even better.
Not a rifle but it was the only deer gun I had at the time.

I guess that would...but that is like playing a video game. There is nothing like being there yourself. I still remember the facial hair on my guys as you could see it through the 10X Unertl scope on my M40A1. The RPK gunner firing from the hip was classic. I remember thinking to myself " look at this idiot" right before I pulled the trigger...The troops we were advancing on were all in trenches, ols school Russian style and I bet he was firing like that so the real troops behind him would not shoot him fo running.

375 yards, right between the eyes of a cow elk. 650 yards on a coyote, but it took four rounds to "walk" it in. 550 yards on a ground squirrel--just like cpttango--with a Ruger 77 tang safety 220 swift using 52 gr. Hornady SX handloads.

I much prefer the up (somewhat) close and personal, way more satisfaction. then you get to pee on them.... just kidding! don't do that or the SECDEF will have to explain to the world how you desicrated those poor dead taliban bodies! "how was your day honey?" "oh, not bad, smoked like 12 dudes today with hellfires from a drone. what's for dinner babe?" or how about the AC130 gunships, theres at least one female gunner with hundreds of confirmed kills from 2 miles high!
