I've seen the old O.F. Mossberg and Sons .22's fead from the butt stock end and also another is the Remington Nylon 66 rifles. The tube feed comes out the butt stock.

I've got one (O.F Mossberg I'm working on, buttstock feed and ammo feed slot opening in the stock)
and have two Remington Nylon 66's that are feed through the buttstock.

I like them better (as far as feeding/re-loading them) for the fact, your out of shots, hold the rifle as is and tilt it down, pull out your feed tube and laod.

Hey Beth. I got this one. Ain't a 22, but it feeds though the butt.

The gun in the picture is mine, but this drawing shows how it works.

Here, this page shows how it works.

There's a tube with a follower, just like your Marlin's tube and follower, only it's in the hollow butt, instead of hanging under the barrel.

on mine the tube is accessed thru the butt plate. remove it and place the rounds into the side of th stock and replace the spring loaded tube. this rifle ejects spent casings downward from the receiver
