Prolly a good choice up yonder where tis cooler. the .338 would be better served by 4831 here in hottern hell TX. And 4000MR would also be an excellent choice.

Modified my lead furnace monday night, went to cast some fishing weights after a run of buckshot with my Christmas present mold only to discover that the mold was too large to fit underneath. I don't like using a dipper so decided a 2x4 and some scrap metal would do the trick!
Glad I did too, the 4 tinyscrews holding the upright to the base are not very secure at all; really don't want 10lbs of molten lead to pour into my lap, ouch! She's stout now, check her out: ![]() ![]() ![]() I laugh when I think of how I used to cast bullets with this sucker on the roof of my barracks as a private; pretty sure it's frowned upon but nobody really cared. Anyway, the new mold now fits with an extra 1.75" of clearance!

JLA, I have 4 lb H4831 short cut, can I use that in 338 win mag? My 338 is a Belguim BAR, and I load Nosler Partitions (180 accubonds,210,225, but mainly 250s). Where'd ya start and where'd ya end up as max?
Ya, it was in 90's about a month back, but now 70's and down to 40 everynight, still light all night long. My daughter is flyin down to school in some place called Big Spring mid August, deaf college; daughter has been deaf since birth. We start on the caribou 10th August, so she will get some shootin before heading south. No crime where we live, I'm kinda worried about her going outta state to school. More people ought to fly up to Ak for caribou & moose & wolves & bear; they'll see snow in the morning come September. I hunted my whole life back east in rural parts of Pennsylvania, killed all kinds of deer, a few bear; but the hunting & freedom in Alaska is so far beyond what I had back east; couldn't imagine how I lived back east half my life before heading off to Alaska. |

My first thought when I tried to stuff the mold under there was "crap, I'm gonna have to buy a new furnace..."
then, wait a minute! I'm a tinkerer, I can fix anything! I'm also a pack rat so I always have bits of scrap metal and other building materials on hand. hacksaw, file, drill and some fasteners, I was good to go. Ain't pretty but it's functional and stronger now.

Loaded up 20 rounds of 300 RUM for my Big Horn sheep hunt that begins on Sept 1. I bought some new 300 RUM Nolser cases, trued the necks, and primed them with Federal Match 215M then loaded my favorite load of Reloader 25 and a Nolser 180 gr Accubond bullet. Checked each round to make sure they chamber and are of the proper lenght to feed from the magazine. I trickled each load to the percise weight of powder. I have been shooting at some longer ranges just incase I have to stretch the barrel a little. My load has been chronographed and all the data sent to Leupold so they could set up my CDS system on the Leupold VXIII 3.5 10x scope. Here was my practice from yesterday. I shot all these prone with bipod. Using my range finder and dialing the distance I was pretty happy with the results. The 450 yards was a poor squeeze. The first 700 yard hole is the one to the left. I checked the target and for the heck of it shot again at 700 but moved the scope to the 710 setting. I have decided my limit is 450 yards but its fun to mess around a little at long range. Stock gun 700 CDL only improvement is a timney trigger. Thats a standard piece of copy paper with a 2inch orange dot which you can't see at 700 yards with all the heat mirage I was fighting.

I love my 650, munching out 1000 rounds in a couple hours just being lazy... last run I did was a couple hundred home cast for the .45 also. Xring, do you have the roller handle for your Dillon yet? $30 well spent IMO if you don't already have that attachment/upgrade.
just ordered a 6 cavity 230gn TC (lee) for my .45 auto; my double cavity broke. also my first order from Grafs showed up this week, got that $25 digital scale, some boo-lits for my glock and some nosler and sierra's for the .308... ...and a free shirt, so guess how much I spent?? hahha

No, I never got around to getting the roller handle. I did get one of those t-shirts with my last order of 9lbs of powder though.

here's that scale by the way, was on sale for $25, hard to beat I think; it's reading a tad high but still need to mess around with it and plan on using it for my next M1A handload runs to test it out. I will be stuffing some Nosler 165gn accubonds with H4895 behind it for elk this year. I'm not sure I want to put 180 gns's thru the M1A

have to show off my new mold too, cannot get my Ruger No.1 (.458 win mag) to shoot very well so going to try a new bullet. 500gn RN gas checked. Double cavity too, will save me some time over my other steel molds.
So will be doing these shortly and using my new scale too! ![]() ![]() the mold states .457" and I size to .459" for the win mag, hope they come out big enough to size that much. But what sold me was a review from another no.1 shooter using it in his .458 with good results. and for the price, I'm not in too deep anyway. Can always use it for .45-70 if it doesn't work in the Ruger.

I'm the only one awake and I now have powder n bullets so I'm gettin ready to start loadin fer the .30-30. Loaded one today and test fired it. That felt good. Word to the wise though, when you go to fire yer very first ever reload remember to take the safety off. Watched the hammer fall outta the bottom of my eye ready and "click".
Lots of bad thoughts goin through my head till I remembered I had put the safety on when checkin the cycle of the reload through my Marlin. Felt like a fool. Unsafed the gun and fired perfect. Now to sight her back in from my dad havin it then work up a load fer her.

so going to try some new powder and bullets in the M1A (elk loads), been using nosler ballistic tips for deer/elk/cougar, but need something different for elk. Tried loading some 165gn Accubond/white tip nosler's and instead of 4064 I went with Hodgon's 4895. Full length resize, measured all powder charges and trimmed brass, etc... did 10 to try out before I toss the rest of the 50 into cases.
The bullets just hit the lands and chamber and extract with no effort, they should cycle good. gonna run 'em thru the chrony also. I have some 180gn nosler accubonds but I'm not sure I want to run them thru the M1A, need to find a 175 gn hunting bullet that suits me. I might try it anyway, one box of 50 and 5 gns diference won't make a huge impact on the gas system. ![]() and, sorted 5 garbag bags full of 12g hulls and about 400 .410 hulls.... my 4 year old helped, took us about an hour: ![]()

I didn't load any today. I did go out a little while ago (through the rain) and put about 200 pieces of 9mm brass in the tumbler so I can load some tomorrow.

aww yeah, found some:
![]() ![]() ruger no.1 porn... she kicks like a mule even with practice loads; 11lbs empty. Need to break down and get a better recoil pad on it, I can manage thru about 40-50 rds in a day max without massive neck and shoulder pain the next day. I named her 'The Tenderizer', it does as stated to both ends! Light the wick on this sucker and you're gonna feel a little pinch!

Hey aa1911 are these hulls Remington (green) and Peters (blue)? Look just like the ones we used when I was a much younger man.

yes, the green are (very old and worn out) Remington STS hulls, the blue ones are actually Fiochi's with 7mm base wad and have high brass construction, 6 point crimp.
STS/Nitro and AA hulls are the best, Fiocchi's are not far behind. I've been collecting tons of those federals though, they load the same as the old gold medals, paper basewad. I think I gave my blue Peters hulls to a skeet buddy last year, they load very well but I only had a couple boxes worth and he had a bunch. Going to use those Fiocchi's for grouse loads this year, 1 1/8 oz of either reclaim or #8 loaded on the hot side.
