Has any one had problems with these new flipping propane cilinders? I am trying to grill some burgs and cant' get any flames, cilinder if full, so I am on the web reading about some leak detection valves you got to reset. Disconect, reconect, bleed this open, turn that slowly blah blah blah......
Im so sick of big brother government and there rules! Im ready to just put the grill by the road with a "free" sign on it and get the old charcoal burner out!!

Wow. The requirement for the new valves hit around here 10 years
ago. Turn everything off. Grill and gas bottle. Turn on gas bottle, THEN turn on grill valves and light. When you shut down, turn off grill valves, THEN shut off gas bottle. If you turn on grill valves before you turn on gas bottle, the darned thing closes some kind of doofus valve on the tank and cuts off the flow. |

First shut the bottle off.
Disconnect the propane line. Reconnect propane line. Turn propane bottle on. Turn gas knob to on and light. The problem comes if you open the know on the barbecue before the propane bottle is turned on. Then, when you shut it down do it in reverse order. Barbecue to off and then the bottle. Be patient, I knew a guy that made a valve bypass and his home blew up so really the valve is a good thing. |

You can't bleed off the tank when it is over full just by opening the Clinton valve.
You have to be patient and burn off some of the fuel, let it burn ridiculously slow, then turn it off/take it off and start again Or you can live on the edge and set up a hose with an older non-Clinton fitting on the tank end and an open end on the opposite end, open the valve and bleed of just enough to reduce the pressure in the tank and maybe burn your house down. |

The way I do it is to light up the burners, then shut off the gas, when the little flames go out turn off the knobs. Then open up the gas and re-fire. I got rid of two different barbeques just because they almost quit working til I learned the "secret".

I have both ,a charcoal BBQ and smoker then i have the propane for those real windy desert days we get. I can burn through a BBQ full of charcoal in about 45 mins to an hour on bad wind days .Nice to have a backup just in case. You cant beat charcoal!

I can't believe this poll. What is a gas BBQ? I've never heard of it before. I've heard of gas grills, but not a gas bbq. I didn't know it was possible to make bbq with gas. Can someone tell me that works please.

Gas grill
? Gas is for the stove, lanterns and heater. Not for grilling. ![]()

Kind of a mix for use. We have a electric /wood vertical smoker a old weber charcoal grill and a wood grill/smoker and a a infrared grill.

I fixed mine by getting rid of that stupid plastic connector at the tank and put a old fashioned POL fitting that requires a wrench to hook up to your tank. No stupid sequence to remember. Open the valve, hit the igniter and go. Plus, being a LP dealer having a small collection of non OPD bottles laying around helps too

If you open the tank valve too quickly, especially with a burner valve open, the new-fangled OPD valve innards think the Hindenburg's exploded and will choke the flow down. Close it, and open it s-l-o-w-l-y. Should be fine, without all that other messing about.
Gas for grilling. Hard wood for smoking. |

I use both:
Gas grill on the open back porch for grilling - Wood fired grill out in the yard for grilling/slow cooking/smoking. I prefer the taste of the wood fire - use only Hickory wood and bark The gas is quick and convenient, serviced by Strickland Propane - Taste the meat, not the heat - I'll tell you what!

KY, Just think, all this new government regulation came about because of single parent families, bicycle helmets, and all the other crap that meant stupid kids that normally would not have survived ordinary childhood , BECAUSE they never had Dad's around that taught them early in life that OXYGEN and other inert gases have RIGHT HANDED threads and any GAS, acetylene, propane, WHATEVER had LEFT HANDED threads....so you could tell them apart and NOT blow yourself up...
![]() I once had 5 extra tanks to back up my grill and torch, then after adaptors for $10 each, at first, which THEN were outlawed, then the complete conversion, I am down to only ONE extra tank....and am forever bitching when I run out in the middle of a steak about the stupid people that couldn't figure out LEFT HAND THREADS.... ![]() ![]() About all I have gained in all this besides junking all my old tanks is I can now change tanks without channellocks... ![]()
