I think one of the reason the imported vehicles got their longevity reputation is due to being the first companies to have 6 digit odometers. Like already mentioned some of the old domestic vehicles lasted just as long, but none knew if they has 100,000, 200,000 etc. I bought a 1987 Silverado a few weeks ago and the 5 digit odometer showed 4,000 miles. It was advertised as 104,000 miles, but I am sure it is more like 304,000 or more. It supposedly has the original 350 in it and still runs great.

i drive my 91 s10 blazer with the 4.3 v6 and 5 speed manual tranny. It has 207k miles on it and it's not much to look at cause the body is rusting away, but it still runs good and I only paid $500 for it.

Wife's '98 Explorer pushing 270,000. All original except for radiator and another cooling system part. No oil burn to speak of. I continue to be amazed. ![]() Last edited by Buckshot; 09-27-2012 at 05:48 AM.. |

Amateurs. This was taken about 2 weeks before I traded my 2001 Navigator. That was probably the most comfortable car I've ever owned. Total at trade was 287,344 and it still had a lot of life left in it, but my wife wanted a new car. What can you say?

Rolling over the odometer over 100,000 was a big deal. Better engineering, oil all of that now.....but not more style and FUN! |
