Holster for revolver - The Firearms Forum

Does anyone know which brand/type of holster is the best bet for my Colt King Cobra? I've tried a couple out in stores that listed it as a fit, but they were tighter than I would like. I'm worried about scuffing my gun.

I prefer one that is something other than brown leather and can be used cross draw or side draw, I like crossdraw but I may be competing at the local range and they do not allow cross draw or shoulder holsters.

Galco makes a Duel Position Phoenix for the King Cobra that fits your requirements, Thunder. Not sure if they make it in a color other than brown, but it is a nice holster. It's also rather expensive. I don't know if that is a concern or not. Here is a link to check it out:

I would really like to keep it under the $50-60 range, I don't mind other materials than leather

You didn't say how high you want the gun to ride or if you'll use the holster for concealment also. I have an old Roy Baker pancake holster for my S&W revolver, but I think Roy's leather is no longer in business. You may want to look into something by another maker. Surely someone makes a 3 slot pancake that will fit the King Cobra.

As far as the holster being "tight", in my humble opinion I want the holster to fit tight enough that the gun won't "fall out" with the safety strap undone. And leather will stretch more than it will shrink. If I buy a holster that is not formed for a particular gun I soak the holster in water until it is saturated then put the gun in it and form it with my fingers and leave the gun in it overnight until it dries out. Just be sure to clean your gun afterward.

Wrap your gun in SaranWrap before putting it into the wet holster. That will help cut down on the corrosion and also keep the leather from sticking to the non-metalic parts of the gun. Then clean the weapon well afterward.
