The Olympics would have brought a lot of money into Ill and the country. Should the President not have tried? You guys know in business you don't close every deal, right? The US had them in '96 and 2002 and they've never taken place in South America.

Are you guys really saying that the sitting President shouldn't do what he can try to help with activities that will have positive economic benefits? Really, are you saying that? Had a look at the debt, deficit or unemployment rate lately?

I think his huckstering, along with the two ladies for back up muscle, was more political payback than looking to boost the economy in 2016. He's got a few things more important on his plate than the 2016 Olympics (always a money losing proposition). TJ

Walien: Rio is going to have to spend $14 BILLION just for infrastructure, most of which they will not use. Then they have to clean up that Million-person getto on top of that; billions more.

Brazil doesn't have that kind of money. We don't have that kind of money to waste on such a deal.

They're not worth it any more.

He shouldn't have wasted taxpayer money to promote a world venue to the most corrupt city in the country. His reasons were far from noble but more for political payback for his chronies. So yes he shouldn't have wasted the money.

One of the stupidest ideas of the 2016 Olympics was to plan on building the Olympic swimming pool in the south side ghetto. After the Olympics end a multi-million dollar pool would be in an area where people don't swim.
Smaller neighborhood pools would be better for that area.
