Question Ruger .45 ACP or .40 S&W

I've decided on a stainless Ruger P Series for my next glovebox gun to replace my retiring S&W model 65 3 inch barreled .357 Magnum revolver.

I've already decided on a stainless Ruger.
I see advantages to both calibers.

I voted 45 but, My choice would be a 10mm S&W 610 with a 3" barrel. This would be for the glove box. If hunting get the 610 in 6" and shoot one hole groups at 25 yards!

I was just pointing out that the 10mm is becoming a cult cartridge..l think they are both good rounds..nowhere near as popular as they ought to be..

the 10mm should never have fallen out of action so quick, just so many people liked the few bits less grip size the .40 provides. What do you think the reason is?

I have a Para Ordnance P-16-40 that I am having converted to 10mm. The only thing that needs to be changed is the barrel and recoil spring. It even uses the factory 40S&W mags. The grip size is still the same. The only thing I am getting out of this is more power. Oh, yeah, I meant to say 18 rounds of more power per mag.

I don't think that level of power and recoil is going to be embraced by the masses...

I have cast my vote but still feel it's needs explanation.
I have both a .45 and a .40 cal.
I really like both
While the .45 has more energy the .40 will kjock down anything you need for personal defense.
buy 1 of each

91/59 veers sharply off topic....

If I may ask, why are you retiring the Model 65? I've been looking for one with the 3" barrel that doesn't say "Ladysmith" on it. Seems to me to be a fine weapon.
Are there problems with it, or have you simply decided to go the semi-auto route?
Just curious.

Returning to topic....

I voted .45 ACP.
The only reason I would go with a smaller caliber is to have a smaller gun.
Given that both are the same size, I'd make sure it held as much horsepower as possible.

My Smith loves 158 grain hollowpoints..especially Blazers..25 yards dead on point of aim...I wish it was that way about 125 grainers

Hey, the P90 is doable!! I just prefer plastic, that's all.

Four Glocks, Ruger P95, P97, P512, P4, and Walther P99. Yeah, I kinda like plastic!!!

The 10mm died after the FBI rejected it. The round was originally built for them. So, when they didn't want it any more, neither did anybody else!!! Government contracts do wonders for a round's popularity!!

That said, I have a Glock 29 in 10mm that I am rather fond of!!

Taurus Stellar Tracker, 2" barrel, 5 shot, 45ACP, moon clips that don't require tools, smooth double action, point of aim, light weight, grip that will accomodate a moderate to large hand without leaving the pinky dangling in mid-air. No FTF or FTE, not finicky on OAL, 200 gr RNFP @ 780 fps.
Works for Me!
