Is it possible (or legal) to purchase a PPSh 41? If so where can I find one? I've always liked this SMG. I don't care if it is a semi auto or even non-functioning, I just really want to hang one up on my wall
.

I'm sure there are a few transferrable ones out there. Put a request on subguns.com and see if anyone responds.
InterOrdnance was selling semi PPSHs. http://www.ppsh41.com/Semi.htm Don't know if they are still doing it. Or you could buy a parts kit, which is everything except the receiver. You'd have to have a dummy receiver made, but you could then use it for display. http://www.militarygunsupply.com/sho...products_id=10 |

The PPsh 41s are great guns and I have had the pleasure with a few. Like the AK stripping is a breeze, they open like M4 with a forward hinge but the working parts are in one lump and they just lift of of the frame.
Drum or banana magazine, they shoot fast and fire an effective cartridge. The ones I tried did jam quite a lot, but then they were old and I wasn't fighting for my life in Stalingrad! They would make a great display item, but kinda hard to hang on a wall with the drum in place. I recall they were dated, beside the ejection slot, which made them even more interesting.

Since you can only have a semi-auto now anyway, I'd rather have a Russian SKS. More reliable too......apparently.

I think they must have been reliable when in service. I have noticed on WW2 eastern front documentaries the Germans are often to be seen carrying them.
I know the MP40 didn't hold up well in cold weather, but cant imagine the Germans would carry the PPsh's around if they didn't work well. ![]()

Tranter, I heard (most likely just a story) that the PPsh throws its empties up and back, so if you stand still they fall down your shirt collar. This was the reason the Russians kept advancing.
![]() Graehaven, why do you say you can only have a semi? You live in New York, so you're screwed when it comes to machine guns, but some of us live in free states. |

Well it was many years ago, but I remember spent cases going pretty much straight up, so I guess its possible and I also remember the rpm was high, or seemed it, We should look it up, average smg runs +/-600.
I think the reason the Ruskies kept advancing was the commissars behind them waving a Tokerev !!!!

Wiki states the fire rate is 900 rpm. Plenty fast! I've never fired one, but I sure do love it on Call of Duty. Whoops, I think I just let the geek in me out.

While I dont trust Wiki, I try to confirm elsewhere, 900 sounds right. It was more of a buzz than a rattle. Quite distinctive.
