I am posting this here because I did not want to detract from Sr. Chief Wilborn's great story.
He mentioned the different colored tags on the caskets. If memory serves me, were those not or identifying "open" or "closed" for funeral purpose?
Before I went to VN, while assigned to Ft McPherson, GA, we had "Body Escort" and "Funeral Honor Guard" details on a revolving duty roster. It seems I remember something about those colored tags.
The body escort detail was another story in it self. Will talk about it another time.

A few years back there was a TV special called FRIENDLY FIRE and I believe Patty Duke played the Mother and the actor who plays in THIRD ROCK was the Army Officer (Casualty Affairs Officer) I believe there was some discussion about the tags and their colors signifiing if the casket was to be opened/closed. Do any of you recall seeing that sad movie---FRIENDLY FIRE ---a terrible thought. Wilborn

Friendly Fire. Made for TV movie - April 22, 1979.

Carol Burnett and Ned Beatty.

Was there another one?

That's the one Stan--thank you. I should'a remembered Carol Burnette for I like her comedy roles so very much---was a real contrast for her to play this role----wasn't the Army officer, John Lithlow or somethin like that--plays in 3rd Rock as a real dingbat alien--also played as a bad gay with Sly Stalone in the mountain climbing story.
