I would just be reloading for target loads - how many cartridges could I get out of a pound of powder? Trying to see what a round of 100 reloads would cost just for materials to get the "break-even" on entering the world of reloading. I know, I'll have to add in press, dies, etc. in my calculation.

7,000 grains to the pound. So, divide 7,000 by the amount of grains in your .45 load and you'll have a rough estimate on the number of rounds per pound.

A handy little chart you can print out and put in your reloading log for quick reference.

Neat link JLA, figuring 10 loads for a piece of .308 brass I'm coming up with $.50 per shot. Now I get to hear the cash register every time I pull the trigger. lol

Seven grains of Unique (my pet load) with a 230 grain cast bullet means 1000 rounds loaded from one pound of powder.

I have never been one to load much other than warmer loads until I got my hands on one of those 500 S&W magnums. I down load for it because it is no fun to shoot a 400 grain bulet at 1700 fps, instead I now shoot 350 Jacketed at about 1500, which is plenty for a hand gun.
I see you don't live very far away so if you ever get over Reno way and would like to go shooting send me a PM. Ron |

I shot my Brothers S&W 460 Mag this past summer. Not as punishing as the 44 mag I've shot. But don't think I'd shoot 50 in one session!
