TRUE STORY FROM...
"THE HOUSTON HERALD NEWSPAPER" IN HOUSTON , TEXAS MARCH 5th, 2009 Last Thursday Night Around Midnight, A Woman From Houston , Texas Was Arrested, Jailed, And Charged With Manslaughter For Shooting A Man 6 Times In The Back As He Was Running Away With Her Purse. ~ The Following Monday Morning, The Woman Was Called In Front Of The Arraignment Judge, Sworn In, And Asked To Explain Her Actions. The Woman Replied, "I Was Standing At The Corner Bus Stop For About 15 Minutes, Waiting For The Bus To Take Me Home After Work. I Am A Waitress At A Local Cafe... I Was There Alone, So I Had My Right Hand On My Pistol, That Was In My Purse, That Was Hung Over My Left Shoulder. All Of A Sudden I Was Being Spun Around Hard To My Left. As I Caught My Balance, I Saw A Man Running Away From Me With My Purse. I Looked Down At My Right Hand And I Saw That My Fingers Were still Wrapped Tightly Around My Pistol. The Next Thing I Remember Is Saying Out Loud, "No Way Punk! Your Not Stealing My Pay Check And Tips." ~ I Raised My Right Hand, Pointed My Pistol At The Man Running Away From Me With My Purse, And Squeezed The Trigger Of My Pistol 6 Times! ~ When Asked By The Arraignment Judge, "Why Did You Shoot The Man 6 Times? ~ Th e Woman Replied Under Oath, "Because, When I Pulled The Trigger The 7th Time, It Only Went Click." ~ The Woman Was Acquitted Of All Charges. She Was Back At Work, At The Cafe, The Next Day! Now that's Gun Control.... AMEN

I think she was charged, but if I recall correctly...the jury didn't convict her...

Too bad the Prosecutor didn't catch one. Good shooting Lady.
There is the biggest problem. Prosecutors who attempt to punish self defense and protection of the fruits of their labor. My wife and mother in law have both been victimized by purse snatchers. The punishment is way too insignificant for the crime. Second offense should be summarily hung from the nearest lamp post. It must be a lot safer for prosecutors to charge waitresses than to charge criminals who might try to kill you or a family member. I despise these types of criminals on both sides of the law.

Couldn't prosecute the criminal in this case...and I've noticed it's getting more common...the criminal to be absent in a self-defense claim...funny!

The major criterion to either a murder or manslaughter is that the adverse party be D E A D, no longer functioning, etc.

My wife and I attended a safety class years ago and she was told NOT to carry her purse in that way. A creep can grab the purse and if it won't come off then the woman can get thrown around and hurt that way. The person telling us reached over and grabbed her purse from behind and yanked and my wife was off her feet in an instant. He cought her of course but that is not a defensible position to be in. Now she has a purpose built gun purse that will come off if carried right and if she has her hand on her gun that will stay in her hand. That's the plan anyway. Before she carried a weapon she fought off a bum in Kroger's parking lot with a shopping cart. He wanted her purse and he didn't get it. Left to find weaker prey I guess. Now she carries everywhere. We were together in my truck right before Christmas and I wanted to stop at a local bar to drop off some toys for a toy drive and I opened my console ,where my .45 was,and dropped in my .380 carry gun and she dropped her .38 carry gun. We felt like the old west and just laughed at the pile of guns.
