I'm taking the money I "owe" the Federal Government and buying a Springfield M21, a case of .308 and reloading dies this year!
I know two men who both make decent money, own their own business (as I do) and havent/didn't pay taxes for ten-twelve years, one of whom was recently caught...I began thinking "good knowing ya John, see you when were old and grey" right? Pfft! Ol' John got himself a small town lawyer who offered the Government pennies on the dollar for what he owed and the Government settled, out of court, almost painless! The other guy might as well not even be alive as far as the Government is concerned, he makes decent money, but he probabally will never be caught because his wife works and pays taxes and they live way beneath their means, albeit they have a two story brick house in the sticks that he did alot of the building on himself. Now I start hearing these ads on the radio of lawyers wanting you to call them if you owe thousands of dollars in back taxes, stating that they can settle for pennies on the dollar, well I happen to know that this is true! So where is the flaw? Pretty aint she?

The IRS came after a friend of mine. After they locked up his house, so he could not sell it, seized his bank accounts, and hi-jacked his paycheck, they came after him. He got a regular lawyer and fought it. Lost the case.
Then he got a lawyer that specialized in fighting the IRS. He won the case (It was NEVER his fault, it was an IRS screw up) but it was drawn out so long that it cost him his house, his health, and every penny he had, plus some. Don’t think I will intentionally draw fire from the IRS. Good luck.

Pickenup,"Don’t think I will intentionally draw fire from the IRS."
that would be my thinking also........ if you did get away with it and when you start collecting SS with ten years more of tax not paid in would i believe it would cut your ss payment by quite abit, plus get you in lot of trouble |

Do what you must.... The house right behind us went for 20,000.00 in back taxes...The couple that lived there paid 20 years to the bank only to lose it all because he got the idea he wasn't going to pay his taxes... I'm just sorry I didn't hear about it before someone else bought it..

You might wind up with no house AND NO GUNS
Not worth it in my book ,especially since you announced it in a public forum , showing intent won't help you down the road. |

Just kidding Guys, most knew that though.
I'm a worry wort by nature and if I knew 100% that I'd get away with it, it still wouldnt be worth the 4k I'll write the check for, I'd worry about it every single day. I just wanted your reactions, I apoligize, but I actually expected a little more passion. It does bug me though (being the actual reason for the post) that some people are exceptions to the rule, at least they think so, while the rest of us carry the load...I have no respect for these men because I feel that we all pay more for these types of peoples actions, as well as those able bodied people who refuse to work and lean on the Government for support, albeit this is fortunately becoming harder for them to do... Nothing wrong with dis-liking the way our Government is run, but dont set it on everyone elses shoulder. Pickenup, I can honestly see that happening...We sent in an ammended form one year which accidently had Darla's name in front of mine on it, the original form had my name first, welp the good old IRS set up a brand new account because of this, on one account we were husband and wife, but on the other we were wife and husband...On one account we had our taxes paid, but on the other we were behind. Remember on Bush's first term when alot of people recieved a 600.00 dollar tax relief rebate, well as a newly married couple just tring to scrape by...We got two! Try as we may they wouldn't take the "dupe account" check back. It was a huge mess for well over a year before they finally assigned us a mediator who figured it all out in less than a week. Chorkie, I know a guy on another forum who actually said he was gonna "do the President in" (although his wording was much more specific, as stated I am a worry wort and will not quote him)... Absolutly nothing ever came of it for at least two years untill the site went down for "maintenance" and never came back up...What I am getting at is, that If the powers that be never looked into that one, well okay, you see what I mean. Thanks for responding Guys. Crpdeth

If we would do away with stupid, wasteful Federal spending and return to a Constitutional form of government, these idiotic taxes wouldn't be necessary anyway.

I'll be the first to admit that I do not know a whole lot about politics, or all the politics involved, but their has to be a better way...Would the explaniation of a National Sales Tax be "only paying taxes as you make purchases, but at a higher rate"? I'd be all for that. I cant believe this (you may not either) but I just remembered two more guys who dont pay a dime taxes and they do what I do for a living, a father and son business...They stay away from commercial business and do absolutely no advertizing, the wife of the father works at a good job, as did the sons wife untill their recent divorce, now it should get interesting as to how the son shows means of living. With all the examples I've given it makes me wonder just how many more there are just like these guys...If I know of four people the total numbers must be staggering. Then you have the illegals (and otherwise) over here roofing houses, landscaping, painting, ect, paying nothing in taxes, having kids with American girls who in turn claim they are still living with Momma, dont know who the father is and reap huge Government benifits...The more I think about it, the madder I get. My wife had won a cruises that was worth 2000.00. I filed our taxes before I recieved the 1099 showing the value of the cruise. I just forgot about it and let it ride. About 2 years later I recieved notice from them about my error along with a tax bill complete with interest and penalties. Needless to say, it ended up not being a free trip. Don

Dcon, Thanks, it's ironic how the IRS can make a mistake and ruin over a year of our life and never pay interest or penalties though isan't it? We're just supposed to be content that they fixed the problem...Same thing happened when Household Bank, the bank that carry's my Dodge truck note posted our payment to another account, they harrassed us every day for nine weeks, we faxed them no less than 100 copies of the cleared check with their stamp on it, along with our banks source of recipt for the entire week, untill they finally credited our account (I still dont think the dummies ever figured out where the money went) with the payment, since they love their customers enough to outsource most of their collection/problem solving to India where the pople barley understand English, mush less have a problem solving level of intelligence...If I made a mistake for nine weeks the truck would be repossesed, so since they are at fault, where is my late charge money and where does their blemish show up as it would on my credit report?

Yes it is true. The farm has been being hasseled because of unpaid taxes. We checked and they were paid. Now we get a letter from the IRS saying we have a balance and have x amount of days to respond or we lose it. The accountant checked and found out it was the check we sent to pay the taxes last year but somehow they did not know where to put it. Don
