Default Music Question

What's your favorite artists and/or songs to listen to when you're just kickin back, or having a drink, or just in general? Idk me... I like to listen to some Rolling Stones or Stevie Ray Vaughan. I miss going to the bar and listening to good blues music. At all these bars my friends go to, all they listen to is this pop music/electronic/rap stuff.

SRV, Allman Brothers, CSN&Y, Niel Young, Clapton when I'm just relaxing. Step it up a bit with Joe Satriani, John Petrucci, Eric Johnson.....or really step it up with some Rob Zombie, Amon Amarth, Volbeat, Slayer and Sepultura (old Sepultura) and too many others to list.

They play that garbage at the gym I attend. Absolute garbage. Especially the Black stuff. If the KKK had done to Black musical culture what they have done to themselves there would be world wide outrage. Black jazz, blues, gospel, all but extinct, replaced by rap.

I'll listen to just about anything that is musical and authentic, jazz, blues, gospel, country, Celtic but my love is Romantic music which describes music originating mainly in Europe from about 1815 to 1910. Examples are:
Camille Saint-Saëns: Danse Macabre
Antonín Dvořák: Carnival Overture
Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov: Scheherazade
Ottorino Respighi: Fountains of Rome
Sergei Prokofiev: Romeo and Juliet Suite for Orchestra

The only "classical" music being composed today worth a damn is movie scores. Give some examples we can listen to graehaven.

I listen to that electronic stuff.
Been a house/techno/trance fan for many years.

Only problem is that most of their songs are over an hour long, so you need to dedicate a lot of time just to listen to music.

Sure:

The two latest Batman soundtracks, the Lord of the Rings trilogy tracks, the Independence Day soundtrack (phenomenal), love the Silverado soundtrack (outstanding theme), the movie Stargate is a great one too, just picked up the latest Transformers and GI Joe movies soundtracks - both pretty good; the Spiderman movie soundtracks.

I have many others, those are just what I have in iTunes on my laptop at the moment.

As for actual examples, i can't really upload any for legal reasons.

But, one can search them out on iTunes, Amazon, or Rhapsody (i think) to hear tracks.

Guitar rock, since I'm a guitarist. Players like Eddie Van Halen, Joe Satriani, Johnny Hiland, Gary More, Billy Gibbons, David Gilmour, Pete Townsend, Vernon Reid and Steve Vai.

When I'm not listening to that stuff, 80's music, classical or any pop tune that's good quality and clever.

The Blues. Mississipi John Hurt, Buddy Guy, Dinah Washinton, John Lee Hooker, Junior Wells, Lead Belly, to list a few. No one artist is my favorite as they all have their place.

Thumbs-up! And might add, 'Unforgiven'; 'Road to Perdition' (Cathederal Sequence), 'Dances With Wolves' (most all, but Buffalo Hunt is exceptional), the end credits to 'Serenity'.

At this moment 'Tower of Power' Back to Oakland.

I prefer almost all Blues and Most Rock, some Jazz, Blue Grass, and Classical.

Here is a site with legal and free old time blues, gospel hilllbilly, even cajun.
Again, it's legal and free.

A big amen on your guys especially Roy Buchanan & Johnny Winters.
(Johnny & Edgar use to play the sock hops at the teen centers around here)

Another plus for Bluegrass. I'm also a huge fan of Celtic music.

Carne Frio's link is a good one. I've had it saved in my favorites for a while.

A Edgar Winter / Ronnie Montrose blast from the past.
