Default Stevens 520 Nickle plated 12 guage

I met a guy selling a Stevens 12 guage model 520 and wanted to know if anyone has an idea of a fair price. Nickle plated receiver, stamped Browning Pat. good condition. He's asking $150. Any help is appreciated.

Hi jmu......welcome to TFF.

Unless that Model 520 is in really nice condition, that price is a bit high. Also, I doubt that the nickle plating was done by the factory.

Anyway, the Blue Values the Model 520 at:

98% - $180
95% - $150
90% - $140
80% - $95

I think the 520's are cool.
I can't find any listing for a factory nickel. You also have to remember these were last produced in 1932, so parts are really tough to find. These 520's are getting harder and harder to come by in really good shape. For something really nice and original, in 95% or better condition, I wouldn't think $300.00 would be outrageous. I certainly wouldn't believe anyone would ever pay more than that today, maybe 5+ years from now it would be another story.

This one doesn't sound like anything I'm describing. Are you sure the receiver is nickel and not chrome? It sounds like something that has really been messed with. I just saw an ad where our local farm supply is selling new Remington 870's for $239.00, after a mail in rebate. Why would anyone consider a non original gun, out of production for over 70 years, when a new gun with a warranty is available for $239? In this case, you are only looking at a shooter, and if it doesn't shoot, why bother?
If this thing works, and you really like it, what do you think it's worth?

Without more information it's hard to say the value. Many were riot/military shotguns.
