Carbide rifle dies - The Firearms Forum

Does anyone make carbide rifle dies? I haven't seen any on midway USA. If they don't them, then why not?

They do make carbide rifle dies, this does NOT preclude lubing cases. You must lube cases always with Any rifle die. Plan on paying between $120 - $160 per set of carbide dies. Dillon probably sells the most carbide rifle die sets, advantage is that there is less friction on the case and the dies are more durable.

it's only bottle neck cartridges that need lube right? would you still need to lube straight walled cases like 45/70 and 444 marlin?

I personally haven't reloaded any of the big straight wall cartridges, my friend reload 45-70 and he does lube his cases. He says it helps due to the size of the contact area.

Not sure that this really clarifies this question, but it's an example. I do know that 30 carbine does just fine without lube and carbide dies, but this is a much smaller case.

yeah. 30 carbine is a pistol round too. i know bottleneck pistol rounds like 357 sig or 221 fireball need lube. but i dont know bout the big rifle rounds. i can see it needing some to smooth it out though.

i have loaded a bunch of 45-70 and always lubed them up

I just bought a carbide 3 die set from Dillon for my 357 Sig. Gonna load some up on my days off. Wont bother lubing them either. Will see how it goes.
