If you mean polishing rouge, sometimes referred to as jewelers rouge yes, thats one method, most popular it seems is either flitz or nufinish car polish in the orange bottle, due to the availabilty.

I don't like using rouge or any dry polishing compound. It's too hard to get it all off and any left on the case can wear the chamber over time. Nufinish car polish is a liquid, just a capful will clean a whole tumbler full of brass to a bright shine, it leaves no residue, and it lasts for many cycles of tumbling. And it's cheap too.

i figure if I'm ultrasonicly cleaning them then a lil metal polish of some sort's probbaly ok. will try it on my next batch of brass. I'm sure I have some nufinish or brasso inthe cabinet to try out.
so far i'm liking the addition of rice to my mix.. last batch i cleaned had some prett dark oxidized shells.. obviously old range pickups.. they came out a nice lighter patina brassy.. |

Non that I've had. I think it helps especially with straight walled carbide dies. Makes it a little easier. I use use Imperial Sizing Wax on my bottle neck brass.

No melting, just a dab on your finger. That little tin will go a long way.

More like a clear shoe polish, kind of. It makes that brass all slippery little suckers. You'll notice a big difference on the amount of force you need on the press handle.

I use Flitz, it cuts the time by about 30% or so.

I use only cheap white rice.....
change it out every 1000rds or so, depending on how dark it starts to get. As good as or better than any concoction yet.

walmart has 25# bags of rice for 8$ and some change. i have a huge bag of it and mix it with lyman treated media and crushed cob media. makes a great extender and way cheaper than the regular cleaner medias..

Thought I could slide that by you folks....... but you're too smart. .63 for 2lbs....and I have to hide the purchase from my wife or she gets furious with me...... BUT it does such a great job.....without any residue on the brass to deal with. And to me, seems safer than having a 'slippery' cartridge in the chamber when firing magnum rounds loaded heavy because I didn't get ALL the wax off. [I usually 'slip' the rice into the shopping cart when she is 'busy' lookin' at what chocolate she wants....] COLORED tumbling media......how do you know when it is dirty????? ![]() But that's why I'm here....I'm new at this...... ![]() ![]() ![]()

i'm using pet sore crushed cob media to mix with my rice and real lyman cob media.
the ped store media was something like 4$ for a gallon pour jug. dustless too. the lyman media is a stiff 17$ or so fo the gallon pour jug for the treated stuff.. and 10$ untreated ( I passed on the untreated ). between mixing the 3 , I should have enough media for a long time to come.. for super nasty range brass.. i pour my mix off and put in straight rice and clean it, then toss the rice into a 1g baggie for use again for real dirty range brass... |

if it did't make a matte finish I'd be tempted to add in some walnut or pecan shell media...
