I just picked up a .222 rem.No markings as to manufacturer.The barrel nut is fluted and SP marked on bolt.Has a 1 weaver side mount scope.Could the manufacturer and serial number be found under the scope mount.Rifle is in good condition.

Without pictures it's hard to tell. but the fluted nut and side mount scope sound to me like it's a Savage 340 or one of their similar models (like a 325, 840, or a store-brand made by Savage).
