Acquired Habits
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
When in Nam there were sayings, ways of doing things, etc. that we all acquired at some time or another.

What was your acquired habit?

I never, ever went a day w/o shaving---even when we had no water---I'd shave dry---still do that to this day---guess my wife and family have never seen me without performing that gesture---if I ever were to loose my arms, guess I'd have to hold the beard to the fire!!!! Dang, what a terrible thought!!! Wilborn

rise before 4AM (all ground attacks were at about sunup=5 AM) and stay up till 5:30 or 6.

always sit with my back to the door....

Never sit on the inside of a booth....or where I can't get out quickly

while in bed...my feet toward the door...and gun under the pillow....and NV device closeby (its amazing what you can see going on in the neiborhood at night!!)

others always within reach (while at home & families houses)...

Still wear combat boots when "in the field" (and sometime to work)..

wash my hair every morning like clockwork... (never could stand dirty hair in the field!!)..

still re-make the bed every night to insure that no "critters" have taking up residence...

almost always NEVER drive the same way to work during the week....and never park in the same space...

ok... enough is enough..... I am paranoid or it was just the "ingrained" behavior the military drummed into me.... take your pick!!

Same story here,

Always sit with my back to the wall facing the door, have a CCW and am always armed whereever I go.

Don't do crowds well. The state fair is a horrorfying experience for me.

Frequent risings at night to check my perimeter.

A lot of the Vietnam behaviors are still part of my life, but after all these years, it's just "normal".

Bending elbow with Falstaff cans with rusty bottoms: that is a bit of memory from my husband.

I also continue to check the bed before getting in it. No matter how much the area was sprayed over there, those darn bugs seem to survive.
