Default Taurus PT1911 laser grips?

I enjoy reading your forum, just joined and this is my first entry, hope I do it correctly. Recently bought the Taurus PT 1911, and couldn't be more pleased with it. I intended to equip it with Crimson Trace lasergrips, but found that they don't fit-interference with the ambidexterous safety.
Does anyone know if the safety can be replaced with a "drop in" standard 1911 right hand safety? I can't bring myself to cut off the safety lever, as my gun shop suggested. Any other suggestions to put the laser on this fine pistol?

The new thumb safety will have to be fitted to work properly. Have you thought about calling CrimsonTrace customer service ?? They may tell you how to fix the fitting problem or have another suggestion.

if you are right handed, like myself, the ambi safety is a wasted feature anyway. I shaved the thumb ledge off of mine and reblued the nub now it fits and functions well with my CT grips

It's also possible to file the grips but it would be better for CT to explain.

Grandpa1948 Check with Crimson Trace as I'm pretty sure they make ones specifically for the PT1911. When I got my PT1911 about a month ago there was one with Crimson Trace grips on it original from Taurus.

Crimson Trace sells a Wilson Combat Ambi Safety that has been shortened for use with their laser grips. I recently installed one for a buddy of mine and he is tickled pink with it.

Grandpa1948;
Why a red dot on such a fine firearm in the first place? You can shoot quicker and much more accurately with open sights than with any of the red dots.
Just curious.
