Did you take these pics? I love it out in the country and woods but man those things make me shudder. Not only can I not stand the sight of them , I hate the fact that they are so stealthy and if not paying attention you can be on top of them before you know it. I definately have to get the "Judge".

Snake sex, you mess with them all you want and they won't strike you. They have something better to think about.

I don't think I would want to be the person who tested that.

Really cool pic. I have never seen a rattle snake in the wild. We have copper heads around here but not to many rattlers. Ever once in a long while you will hear of a timber rattler being killed.

Tested, I don't care for running over snakes, so you just scoot them to the side and everyone goes about their way.

Observe them, as any other cool part of nature and
don't meddle with them. When molested they will
reward you with pain. Snakes are needed to keep
down the population of disease carrying rodents. In
the Southwest USA you only kill snakes if you like
Bubonic Plague and Hanta Virus.

Those are cool photos and you are lucky to have seen
that sort of behavior.

I am thinking the pattern from a modified cylinder choke and #8 at that range would have gotten them both...

That's some big ones. I'll kill a poisonous snake. Those that aren't, I'll leave.
I've run across too many cotton mouths in my time.

Snakes give me fantastic physical abilities.

If I almost step on one I can jump backwards 10 feet with one leg.

Those rattlers are doing the viper dance as a mating ritual. I watched a couple of copperheads do that years ago.

Yes you need to watch for them and let em be.

Ive seen some big un's all over...in my time....

But you know fellers,,,,,you just got me thinkin.....

I guess the biggest one I ever saw was one day.......

I was in this saloon in a little texas town..and we all heard somthin and looked out..and here come this great big seven foot guy walkin to the saloon...and he was a draggin a 2000 pound grizzly on one chain and a 1000 pound mountain lion on another....

He come to the front door..we saw him kick the grizzly and lion in the "butt" and holler " sit here till I come back !"....

Well, he come in (every body got against the wall ) and went to bar and told keeper - give me bottle of strongest redeye..he took bottle , bit kneck off and drunk it down ..then softly said "ouch"...

He reached in his shirt and pulled out a 18 foot diamond back rattler 1 ffot around in size .." thats 3 times you bit me today , he said .." and promptly bit the snakes head off and spit it out..then told keep for another bottle....

seems I was only one not scared to speek..so I asked him .."sir...not bein nosey..where you from...? "

he spit and said " I'm from franksboro..why ?....

I gulped and said.." they must be tough up there !."

he frowned and said..." TOUGH HELL !...they ran all of us sissies out yesterday !!!!! "

anyway, biggest snake I ever saw ..( or told)

pray for me ?

Very cool pictures, but I am with ponycar17 on this one. I have 40 acres near cheyenne, Wyoming and have seen rattlers there before. I have a 410 with their picture on it.

Great pics - but - just serve to emphasize why I like Maine. No slithery or crawly things up here that will bite/sting/poison you. We've got some big black bears but they'll generally steer clear of you unless you get between mom and her cubs. Then you've had it. Don't believe the stories that a bear can't run.
