But he was a friggin crook! Probably the most corrupt scum-bags on the hill. ABSCAM - He somehow dodged this bullet in the 1980's after he was caught on tape telling an undercover FBI agent he might want money for his district in exchange for legislative favors -- and he regularly appears on good-government groups' lists of the most corrupt members of Congress. **** Recently offices of a defense contractor in his home district, which has received millions of dollars in earmarks at the request of earmark king Rep. John Murtha (D-PA) by the FBI and IRS. It goes on and on. He has now met his maker and is answering for stealing the peoples monies! Last edited by questor; 02-08-2010 at 07:40 PM.. |

He was a real sweetheart. For his funeral they will have to screw him into the ground.
http://www.cbsnews.com/blogs/2010/02...y6187525.shtml HARRISBURG, Pa. (CBS/AP) As family and friends mourn the death of Rep. John Murtha, the tall, gruff mannered former Marine who became the de facto voice of veterans on Capitol Hill, some political watchdogs are recalling a darker episode in the Congressman's storied past – the Abscam scandal, in which the Pennsylvania lawmaker was caught in an awkward videotaped exchange that suggested he might eventually offer political concessions for cash. In the 1970s and 80s, the FBI ran a wide sting operation to catch federal lawmakers who the government believed could be bought. The scheme, called Abscam, tried to catch government officials accepting bribes in return for political favors to a non-existent sheik. Murtha was videotaped turning down a $50,000 bribe while holding out the possibility that he might take money in the future, according to the Associated Press. Photo: John "Jack" Murtha Feb. 18, 1982. "We do business for a while, maybe I'll be interested and maybe I won't," Murtha said on the tape. Six congressmen and one senator were convicted in the case. Murtha was not charged, but the government named him as an unindicted co-conspirator and he testified against two other congressmen. Murtha had more recent problems too. In 2008, the FBI raided the offices of PMA, a lobbying firm that had become one Murtha's biggest sources of campaign cash. The firm specialized in obtaining earmarks for defense contractors, and with Murtha's help, got plenty of them. In 2007 and 2008, Murtha and two fellow Democrats on the House Appropriations defense subcommittee directed $137 million to defense contractors who were paying PMA to get them government business. Between 1989 and 2009, Murtha collected more than $2.3 million in campaign contributions from PMA's lobbyists and corporate clients, according to the Center for Responsive Politics, which tracks political money. The House ethics committee investigated the link between PMA-related campaign contributions and earmarks, but it had not named a subcommittee to look into possible violations by individual lawmakers. But despite taking political body blows for the Abscam scandal and later for his rabid defense of earmarks, Murtha was also deeply admired for his brave service as a Marine and his staunch criticism of the Iraq war. "Ever since I was a young boy, I had two goals in life - I wanted to be a colonel in the Marine Corps and a member of Congress," Murtha wrote in his 2004 book, "From Vietnam to 9/11." In the end, he did both. The Pennsylvania Democrat died at Virginia Hospital Center in Arlington, Va., with his family at his bedside Monday. The 77-year-old had been suffering complications from gallbladder surgery.

He had gall bladder surgery and they cut into the intestine and apparently didn't know they did it. It somehow seems fitting that he was poisoned by his own ****.

Couldn't work up a give a da*n since he accused those Marines with murder and other crimes with out a trial and then used the power of his office to constantly bring pressure to convict them.
He kept it up even as they were acquitted one by one with some Judges saying the charges should never been brought in the first place. I think there is still one more under the gun. Maybe Murthas' death will take the pressure off to get at least one of these guys. How many times has this guy been tried? Is this #3? No apology, no offer to help defray the millions of dollars in legal bills to defend themselves. How are Enlisted men to ever come up with the wherewithal to pay for this. Hats off to all those people in this country who came together to help and provide probono assistance to defend them against the full might of the Federal Govt. without whose help, their bills would have been so much larger. This man was no different than the Muslim soldier who fragged his officers early in this war on terror. Good riddance. There is a Reserve Officer who ran against him in the last election and came close even though he was deployed until late Aug. which gave him only a little over 2 mos. to campaign. He didn't like what Murtha did to those Marines. It would be great to see that Dem. replaced with a conservative Army officer.

We need to stop prosecuting, and pursecuting OUR people. Stop defending their people, and get down to killing their people. Stop this PC crap, and do as Jack says, exterminate the vermin.
They are not 'enemy combatants', they are terrorists, and should be treated as such.

Murtha was a POS...just because he was a Vet, that does not give him the right to stomp on the Military. He called our Marines murderers...and worse he always stood with the liberal jerk offs who always were looking for a chance to turn on our men & women in uniform. I for one am glad he this crook is gone...
