Army and their paperwork, I tell ya.
I reenlisted while in Iraq, and volunteered to stay with the same unit for another year as part of the reenlistment, so I could go to war with the same group of guys. Knowing how they operate during raids, and knowing how they react to contact after numerous times with them was a comfort.
At the same time, I put in for a command sponsorship so that my wife and kids could be here in Germany with me. This process usually takes a couple months to complete. Or it has for everyone in my platoon anyways.
Well, most of the guys I stayed in the unit to be with have PCSed to Texas, and I went down yesterday to start the paperwork to lift my extension, and be assigned to Texas.
Well they looked at me and said "oh, good news, your command sponsorship packet was approved, pick the orders up tomorrow, and get the tickets from transportation for your family"
It took 2 weeks for my command sponsorship to go through. While I'm glad that my family is going to be here soon to be with me, it just goes to show that the Army is slow at everything but screwing you over.
