Winchester Model 1873
The ser. # says it was made in 1884. Cal. 44/40 with a 30" octagon barrel. From what I gather, not many 30" were made. Most blueing gone, some pitting, nice patina. Bore is clean but shows it's age. Action is smooth and tight. Wood is dark and scuffed but no cracks or splits. I think it was built for black powder shells but someone MAY have tried to use smokeless shell in it. When I got it, an old box of " Peters Rustless 44 winchester " came with it, these are smokeless powder shells.
The ejection port hood is missing. It's not for sale, it looks to good hanging over the fireplace. Value is for insurance only. But any info you could give would be very helpfull.
