all over town is dry for my preferred bullets (sierra 150gr FN #2000). same thing online. what other options are out there for a 150 gr .308 tube magazine? I hear guys using round nose but that scare the crap out of me.
I gotta do something fast since my brother is coming in 3 days and I need to get some loaded for our range time this weekend.

Why does the Round Nose bullet "scare the crap out of you"?
Here is an excellent 30-30 bullet. http://www.midwayusa.com/product/382...ose-box-of-100 |

^That looks like a nice bullet. I'm partial to the Remington 150 gr Core-Lokt bullets myself. Just my opinion.

I've used the Remington 150gr. Round Nose Core Loct for years with no bad effects. This is the same bullet that is used in their factory loaded ammo.

There are quite a few 150gr and 170gr round nose bullets that are specifically for the .30-30. They work just fine as the profile is designed for the .30-30s with tube magazines.
Most of the time, I use the Winchester bulk 150gr but I've used the Remington 150gr as well as Hornady and Speer 150gr round noses too. The Winchester bulk bullets are almost always the cheapest option when I order so I've just kinda stuck with them for most of my "cheap" range ammo and a lot of my hunting loads too. I just have a hard time convincing myself that the round noses won't set off a primer. it appears I am highly paranoid from all the responses so far.
after looking high and low with not a hint of success I had an idea. my brother is coming on Friday from far NE Illinois. I know the area so I called Mike Schrank's Smoke-n-Gun in Waukegan this morning. I told Ted what I was looking for and he had 2 boxes. HAD is the operable word here. I paid for them over the phone and my brother will pick them up on Thursday and bring them to me. then I can show him how cheapskates like me afford this hobby. oh, get this. he was worried that he would be illegal by transporting them for me.

I've shot these factory loads from Hornady but I believe that you need to trim your brass shorter to use them for reloading.

From one of my reloading manuals. Because the majority of rifles chambered in .30-30 are lever-action rifles with tubular magazines, most .30-30 cartridges are loaded with round-nose or flat-nose bullets. This is to prevent bullet from setting off the primer of the cartridge ahead of it in the magazine during recoil. |
