I;m not sure how old this Rifle is,a 22cal long rifle , which has a no on the barrell 40943, could someone please point me in the right direction?

Not enough info, J, Stevens Arms and Tool Company made 22 rifles from 1886 to 1916 under that name and they didn't use serial numbers. Like noted a picture would be good and a description of the rifle, barrel length, action, any other markings...
They were cheap economical rifles and shot a lot, most are now shot out but a good one could still bring $400 + if you found an eager collector. $100 or less is more likely. You need to get hold of Stevens Savage.
