I was just going over an M1 Carbine that I recently adopted and have noticed little bits of rust on the barrel and some on the magazine. Doesn't look like this is just easy surface rust either. As far as I can tell this is water damage or what not because this rust is thick and tough. I've tried working the magazine over with fine steel wool and while it's taken a tad of the rust off it's also scuffed the magazine a bit. Any suggestions?

Is this a collector's piece, or something that you don't mind refinishing?

See what happens when you shoot that Wolf ammo! Don't use a rust remover other than Blue Wonder, and if you use it, use a hair dryer or torch to heat up the metal. Rust removers that use acid will remove parkerizing and/or blue. When you use 0000 steel wool, use stainless steel wool, not carbon steel wool, or ir will just get covered with light surface rust again. Also, use oil with the steel wool to prevent the scratching you get. Good luck Rory!

Hmmm...I just had a crazy idea...I'm leaving a few days early to go to my sister's apartment on the way to college. Why don't I bring the carbine with me, stop at the gunshop down the road, fix it up, and then store it in a gun sock until I can return in March.....?
