Did Cooey make a Ranger single shot shotgun. I am going to look at one tomorrow that the fellow says is a Cooey Ranger 12 gauge. I asked a couple of questions and he said it only says Ranger on the receiver, no Cooey machine works or made by Winchester. If it only says Ranger, would that not be a gun made for Sears or Montgomery Wards by someone like Savage?

Sears used the tradename Ranger on shotguns made for them by various manufacturers. Usually they are only marked with the Ranger name and not the name of the actual manufacturer. You seem to be on the right track.

Turns out the gun does only say Ranger on the side but it was made by Iver Johnson as it has the butt plate with their name and owl head on it. The top of the barrel says barrel and lug forged in one and says 12 gauge choke bore. The gun has seen a lot of use over the years but the action is surprisingly very tight. Gave the guy $75.00 for it just to have some fun.
