Default Worst case presidential picks: Poll

It's almost two years until the presidential election, but it seems like it already is in full swing. I feel like the top two choices from each party that the media is proclaming as the most likely candidates are all poor choices. On the Democrat side, there are senators Clinton, and Obama. On the Republican side we have former NYC mayor Rudy Giuliani, and Senator McCain.

If the election were held today, and you had to choose between these four individuals who would be your choice.

I would have really appreciated former Senator Fred Thompson and former Speaker Newt Gingrich included in your poll. The choices given were lousy if you're a Reagan conservative.

None of the above. I'd pick someone from an alternate party probably, but don't know whom the lucky recipeint of my support would be at this time.

Pat, polls are limited to 4 choices. And the "lousy choices" are the whole point of my poll. I know it is a long time until the election, but according to the media these four individuals are in the top picks right now.

Pat, I have not heard any thing about former Senator Thompson running. And I think Newt Gingrich as a candidate for president would have little chance to win the Republican nomination, let alone the general election.

McCain is the liberal's choice for a Republican candidate. Why do you think he skipped the CPAC convention to announce his candidacy on Letterman?

Between him and Giuliani, I'd have to go for Giuliani. Joke all you want about me being a recovering New Yorker. But I consider myself a Goldwater conservative, so I'm hoping Thompson will run.

(Oh pleasepleasepleasepleaseplease!)

Lord help us if those turn out to be the only choices! If I absolutely HAD to choose, I guess I would go with McCain, only because he has had military experience and proved himself a strong man as a combat pilot and POW in Vietnam.

I suppose I could tolerate Giuliani, but only if he changed his mind on gun control. On that issue along, he scares hell out of me.

PistolShooter - did you see the posted photos somewhere here recently that showed the last New York mayor's propensity for dressing up as a woman?

I like him too, and supposedly he's thinking about it. A good ol' boy from Tennessee would make a fine president.

If those were my ONLY choices.
For the first time, since I started voting, I WOULDN'T.
I would join the other 50% of those who have lost all faith in this system.

I will not vote for the lesser of two (or 4) evils.

All of the above are equally anticonstitution, even if you added Romney my statement still would be true.

Actually, it's way too early in the game to know if any of these will still be in the running close to election time, or even six months from now. All kinds of things can happen to knock someone out of the picture, and it doesn't always take much. Remember the Dean Scream?

Heck, remember Gary Hart? Mr. Monkey Business? He was a front-runner once...

Clmanges, you are correct, it is almost a year and a half until the conventions, and in politics that is an eternity.

I don't know much about former Senator Fred Thompson. I like his role on "Law and Order". "Law and Order" is one of my favorite shows, I tape it every week to watch while I work out.

There is an old saying "their support is a mile wide but only an inch deep". I don't hear any "real" people who are enthusiastic supporters of any of the above candidates.

I think Senator Obama is a media creation, and has no chance of gaining the nomination, let alone the presidency.

Senator Clinto has a huge "ick" factor. She has a gift for turning people off.

Former Mayor Guiliana is a moderatly liberal Democrat running for the Republican nomination. How is he the front runner?

My main gripe with Senator McCain is his immigration stance. It is every bit as bad as President Bush, and the democrats position.
