A vendor was shot at a gun show in Knoxville Tn over the weekend. Apparently a vistor of the show had taken out his concealled carry weapon to show someone. He had removed the magazine/clip but failed to eject the round from the chamber. While handling the 45, it discharged hitting a vendor. I'm not sure of any further details but will search the Knox News Sentinal. I won't be able to post a link because I'm on my phone and don't know how. I will report my findings. Just curious as to how many levels of stupid there are in this.

Thanks Juker. It was WBIR that reported it. I was still half asleep at the time.

Ya can't fix STUPID! Always have slide locked back and Mag out or cyclinder to the side, then anyone can verify it is unloaded. |

I have said this before. I have display cases full of guns that have never been loaded. Every time I take a gun out to show it to someone, it gets cleared before it gets handed to them. Then, it could go back in the case for 2 minutes and get shown again but it gets cleared again before it gets handed out. This happens EVERY time and not one gun in the case has ever been loaded. It is the same with every single gun no matter what, no matter where. Especially if its a carry piece. I will pull the mag out and pull the slide back and eject the round and then rack the slide back and forth like 4 more times before I hand it to someone and even then the muzzle never gets pointed at anyone.

This is like that shipwreck in Italy, stupidity trumps all levels of technologically advanced safety systems. Did he vote for Obama?

I don't get it either...you unload and open the action before handing a gun to someone - or taking a gun from someone.
My wife is just getting into guns and is 'afraid i may shoot myself when cleaning my guns' becuase that's a common 'excuse' (IMO) as to how some fool shot themselves. Then last week she's attending a training on PTSD with first responders and at lunch talks with a LE type that says, yeah, it's possible to do that. HOW??? You can't clean a loaded gun! And if you shoot yourself unloading it you have issues to the point you shouldn't have a gun in the first place. |

Why in hell are people putting their fingers on triggers? I have only had one dealer suggest I dry fire at a shop, and I did check to see if it was loaded even after he checked it. It's a habit, and an easy one to remember.
I am disgusted.

I can't remember a time that I've handed someone a pistol and the mag wasn't ejected and the slide locked back. Or if it was a wheel gun, the cylinder open. Even with long guns, the bolts are open. It's just second nature.

Yup. Last February in Bloomington, Illinois. Someone brought in a Mini 14 to sell on consignment. It was on a vendor's table for a very short while before someone picked it up and pulled the trigger. The round went through a 4" wooden post, in one man's back and out his chest, and hit another man in the upper arm. I was there.
The levels of stupidity in this instance nearly defy imagination: 1. Owner doesn't realize gun is loaded. 2. Gun not checked by staff at door. 3. Vendor takes gun for consignment, doesn't check it. 4. Potential buyer handles gun, doesn't check it, pulls trigger. Fortunately the man with the chest wound survived. Now all guns at Illinois shows are zip-tied at the door, as they well should be. Can't ever be too careful around stupid people.

I've carelessly put myself in a really bad spot once while working on electrical stuff. Had I been wearing different shoes, I could very well be dead. I know better, but I slipped and fell so that I touched the bus bar of a live panel. I thank God for those boots that saved me. It doesn't matter what you're doing. Carelessness kills.

It's so complicated, you have the dealer unload and show you then when you take it you check again. Basic 101, that dope deserved to get shot for not understanding basic gun safety. Some mules go nicely, sometimes you gotta thunk a hammer head between the eyes. This hammer head needed to be thunked.

I'm curious as to why the vendor removed his carry weapon instead of a display gun.

Underscore again, even if someone has cleared the gun and handed it to me I clear it again before manipulating it in any way, and never point it anywhere but a neutral direction. |

SAN DIEGO, California - A Navy SEAL from the Valley accidentally shot himself in the head in his San Diego apartment. Geno Clayton's family owns Clayton Heating and Air Conditioning here in Youngstown. San Diego police say the 22-year-old returned to his apartment just after 2:00 a.m. on Thursday. The Navy SEAL had been out with friends at a bar and brought a woman home with him that he had met earlier in the night. Police say he was showing her his 9mm handgun and in an attempt to prove it wasn't loaded he put it to his head and pulled the trigger. "It appears to be completely accidental. He was showing the girl his handgun, thought it to be unloaded and clearly it wasn't," says San Diego Police Lt. Andra Brown. Clayton is on life support. His parents flew to San Diego last night to be with him. Clayton is a Boardman High School graduate and played hockey with the Poland High School club team. He then played hockey at Youngstown State University. Mike Poljak played with Clayton and is now the coach of the YSU team. "He was a good kid. He had a good heart and that's the main thing that stood out, that attracted people to him, I think," Poljak said. Poljak says he wasn't surprised when Clayton told him he wanted to be a Navy SEAL. "He was a real athletically built kid. He was, you know, he had that kind of protective nature on the ice. It just seemed fitting for someone like him to do some sort of military work like that. Just seemed right when he told me that." Clayton just completed his SEAL training last month. The shooting is under investigation by the Naval Criminal Investigative Service. UPDATE, he died.
