Smelting WW’s is out because of where I live. That leaves casting from ingots but I cant find a source for the lead. I would love to hear from members where they get their lead.. Your input is appreciated

there are several sources but if you want, try Ebay. I bought some that was already cast into ingots. It tends to run around $1/lb.

If you know someone that works for the phone company or has worked for the phone company they may have some.
At one time I had several hundred pounds, but used most of it for sinkers for snapper fishing. ![]() |

Dixie.. Thanks for the ebay tip. There’s more than a lifetime supply available!

Go to your local gun range and dig it out of the hill.

+1 on the telco. I used to work for them and still have a couple of buddies who are in outside plant. When they pull down the very old lead sheathed cable, they manage to strip off some of the lead covering and set it aside for me. A little here, a little there and it adds up. Also try scrap yards that buy tel cable.

I have bought some Linotype ingots off eBay. It is hard enough that you don't need to add tin.

I don't cast my own but what about plumbing supply houses. I had some soil pipe replaced last year and he melted ingots right there in the basement to pore around the joints. I am guessing it is available to those plumbers.

Seafab Metals in Casa Grande Arizona. But, that's for certified bullet metal, not wheel weight ingots.
