1907 Colt da 38 revolver? - The Firearms Forum

Can anyone help me with more info on this revolver. It was my grandfathers and I am looking to sell it.

I was told it was a 1907.

Any idea of the worth?

can properly date it if you give us the serial number at least the first 3 numbers also what caliber is it ?

Based on your post and pics; I think you have a Colt New Navy double action revolver; 1st or 2nd issue. (also called "New Army")
("Colt" on grips: I'll assume they are original)
Made 1889-1907.
The 2nd issue was from 1892-1907; so maybe it is a "1907"; serial#'s will tell.

Avialible in .38 long&short Colt: .41 long&short Colt.
.38 Special added in 1904; .32-20 in 1905 (2nd issue).

Barrel lengths: 3, 4.5, 6 inches.

As to worth; pics are a bit fuzzy; can't inspect it; so I'll say $350+?

That gun has the cylinder stop notches, so it is not the Model 1889. It is one of the series* of Army-Navy revolvers made both for the military in .38 Long Colt and for civilian sale in .38 and .41 calibers. That gun is a civilian model.

Value depends, as always, on the amount of original finish and, for this gun especially, on functionality. The mechanism is fragile and many have broken or worn parts; few parts are available and few gunsmiths know how to work on them.

*Models 1892, 1894, 1895, 1896 1901, and 1905, the last made for the USMC. The models are basically the same except for internal differences, a smaller butt on the civilian models and the round butt on the USMC model.

I found the numbers 115-725 on the bottom of the handle of gun. I also found 273 inside the barrel. and it says patened aug 5, 1884 and it has the dates nov 6, 88 and mar 5, 95 on it.

Does this help to value it.

What do you mean by the mechanism may be broken cause its fragile? I don't understand gun lingo, sorry.

I simply meant that those guns have a lot of flat springs and some fragile parts. They are very often seen with broken parts and in a non-functioning condition. Most of the military contract guns are plain worn out; civilian guns are generally in better shape.

That is the civilian model called the "New Navy". The only difference between the civilian "New Army" and the civilian "New Navy" was the grips - the "New Army" had a rampant colt where the word "COLT" is on your gun.

Serial number 115725 was made in 1899. The 273 is an assembly number.

The pictures are too blurry to assess condition; my best guess on value would be around $500+, but better pictures could change that.
