Default So my wifes friend won't come to our house

My wife has several friends that she runs with and they all have kids about the same age as ours. They also get together for playdates at each others house. Whenever the meeting place is our house one gal never shows up. We later found out though others, is because shes afraid to come over because she knows what I do part time and we have guns in the house. Well yeah, but its not like we sit down for dinner and I have to move my 586 out of the way so I can put my plate down or "have a seat, just push the shot gun off to the side to make room". Do anti gunners think that guns have fingers, can unlock safes and migrate on there own from room to room occasionally taking a nap on the sofa? One gal defended me and told her that you would never even know that they own guns or work on them. Its probably the safest house you'd ever be in.
Dang woman, give a guy some credit. I guess she never knew that whenever i talk to her in public that I'm pack'n.

Try not to be offended or give the impression that you think she is a fool (no matter how you feel about what she thinks). Just be open, straightforward and common sense. Ask her what you could do to make her feel more comfortable. I'm not saying you should do whatever she says, but it will give you more insight into her concerns and tell her that you are open to discussion and reasonable. I know it sounds crazy, but... after some preparation, invite her to go shooting with you.

Some people have no exposure to firearms apart from movies, TV and the evening news. In each of those places, the only thing firearms are used for is killing people, good or bad. It's up to us to be an example to other people that normal, common sense civilians can and do legally and safely own guns.

Her loss.

I'd talk to her and try to clear up her misconceptions, and even invite her shooting, as Lurpy has suggested.
If she continues to be closed minded, oh well. I certainly wouldn't change anything to bend to her wishes.

Now that made me laugh pinecone.

Her loss is your gain. One less hoplophobe to deal with.

Okay, let me run this again: Your wife's narrow-minded, 'fraidy-cat friend won't come to your house because you have guns under the roof. And this is a problem . . . . . . why?

I wonder how she's going to feel when I tell her that her husband called me the other day about a revolver he wants to buy for home protection. I guess he better clear it with the general first.
This is good advice. I think she's really worries that her kids may find something or they may start talking about guns all the time. Maybe one day she'll realize that my 4 year old who is a know-it-all chatterbox never ever says anything about guns, doesn't even play with the toy ones, in fact when other kids play cops and robbers, mine will never ever point the make shift gun at anyone. Start em young I guess.

explain to her you are sorry for her narrow minded and frankly rude ways and that she need not worry if she has any troubles you will NOT come to her aid,

and that with that attitude its just asking for some low life criminal to come take advntage.

tell her thats from first hand experience from where they have gun control

cheers

Give thanks to our great media for all of the positive coverage on firearms. I feel bad for people who grow up without gun contact or education. I would attempt to make her comfortable and possibly educate her a bit.

My Dad had guns and knives. I have no memories of him without either. I also remember, I was way more afraid of him, than wanting to touch one without his permission.

Explain to the woman that when she takes her kid in a car, she is exposing him to more danger than anything else possible. A bathtub is where most accidents happen in a home.

It is an SUV packing an AK-47. Both are evil.

Actually, yes, most anti-gunners do believe that because there has been a campaign by the liberal left and their pet mainstream media for thirty years hammering away at the public telling them that guns are inherently EVIL and dangerous all on their own. This campaign has worked very well with those people who are not often exposed to guns (unless they are being mugged) and are not familiar with them enough to understand that they are merely a tool and it is the hand that wields them that causes harm.

My dad had firearms and the thought never occurred to me to touch them. They were off limits until I was old enough to handle in a responsible manner.

I wouldn't rat out her husband let him buy the revolver, if he is a wimp you may be able to get a good deal on it. If not then it should be an interesting few weeks.
